The Famous Aberdeen - Season 2022/23

You’d think for all their condescending talk and hubris about what a fantastic season they’re having/how terrible ours is that they’d be more than 1 (*one*) point ahead of us. -

Absolutely no way he should be approached either. And neither should McKay or Robinson. -

There’s been a sending off in six of our 24 league games this season (including all three Aberdeen vs St Mirren games) but I think Wednesday may have been our first one awarded via VAR (I think Stewart’s in Paisley was awarded by the ref with the penalty given via VAR). We also had a sending off in the league cup semi so that’s 4 in the 11 games post-WC. From a quick check 9/23 of St Mirren’s league games have had a red card awarded during them but no idea how many what VAR involved. -
That’s clearly bollocks though. When we beat you 4-1 in the first game of the season - which was effectively decided by a first half sending off like all the games between us this season - all the conversation post-match from Miller and others was about what a horrific game Declan Gallagher had had and that type of performance was why he wasn’t at Aberdeen. Likewise, the same game Curtis Main was ineffective and got hooked two mins into the second half. It wasn’t sour grapes or inaccurate to point out their performances that day reflected why they’d been released/rejected. The fact St. Mirren are currently four points above us in the table doesn’t change the fact both players were on the whole abysmal for Aberdeen (Gallagher moreso than Main in fairness). Releasing them was and remains 100% the correct decision.

Is there not a limit on the number of loan players you can have in a matchday squad (for some reason I thought six?) -

Tom Ritchie recalled from Peterhead. Would suggest either the Dutch keeper isn’t coming or Lewis is away. -

Although he’d be ok defensively at LB, I don’t think Scales is quick or agile enough to be that effective attacking wise from LB. He’d probably be ok against a number of teams in this league though. Overall, despite the post-WC shambles, we’re still only three points off fourth (although Livi and St Mirren have a game in hand). Given every team from fourth down has been varying shades of shit this season and I’d say our squad is the strongest - defence aside - out of the four teams looking at top six (Livi, Hibs St Mirren and us), we’re still in a strong position to get Europe. -

Quick browse of Twitter has their fans suggesting he’s slow on the turn and lacking agility though decent defensively and in the air. Whatever he is, having more than two CB’s is an immediate improvement. -

Yep, when he came in and jettisoned Scott Brown (not saying this was the wrong decision), he said something along the lines that he is a control freak and had no use for other coaches other than his assistant at the club as he wanted to do everything himself. It’s clear that the Aberdeen job is far too big for a relatively Inexperienced manager to try and run everything effectively through one person as Goodwin tried to do (especially given the ineptitude of the other footballing structure) and likely contributed to the excessive number of fall-outs he had with players. I’m pleased we’re already looking to address this by appointing an experienced coach like Agnew to assist Robson for the interim period - you feel that’s exactly the sort of assistant Glass could have done with. -

It’s all fairly unpleasant and ugly how this has ended, however, Goodwin should have resigned prior to yesterday so can’t say I’ve too much sympathy. I do wish him well moving forward as he comes across as a decent bloke, but it’s been clear for a while the job is too big for him and think his career will be better served by bringing in a number 2 who isn’t an absolute charlatan. -

How long is Roos out for? I’ve managed to miss the details regarding his injury. The amount of loan players we have is quite a concern and has been all season. For me, we should only be loaning in players if they are significantly better than what we’d be able to attract permanently or as emergency cover. The likes of Scales and Coulson are nowhere near good enough (nevermind going into the merits of loaning players from either of those two) while Clarkson and Coulson are utter shitebags who clearly don’t fancy any sort of fight. -

Dons vs rangers - league cup semi

Stewart’s a moron. Just give the sensible, vague answer of “both are good players with different strengths and weaknesses” etc. No point providing any extra motivation to them or any other team, especially if you’re as much of a bombscare as Stewart is. Can’t say I’m feeling confident about this one. -

Aberdeen v Ross County
AngusTheBull replied to Frank Grimes's topic in Scottish Premiership General Chatter
The formation/substitutions came across as a hopeful throw of the dice rather than having any coherent strategy or thought behind it. Although both Miovski and Ramirez were poor, taking both off meant we had nobody in the box when we got in promising positions out wide given Duk likes to roam the pitch. This made even less sense given we’d brought on two wingers. County were clearly content from half time with just a point and defended well but we didn’t create ever look capable of breaking them down. Ramadani was very good, and despite his corners and a lot of the stick he seems to be getting, I thought Kennedy played well. -

My first Dons game of the (league) season so I’m probably the only person going who’s looking forward to it. 3 points are absolutely essential here, preferably with a good performance please Jim. Prediction: 0-0 with 4 stands chanting “Goodwin, GTF” come full time. -

We shouldn’t be hiring domestically next as there are no particularly promising candidates there. Likewise, we shouldn’t have hired our current manager domestically given there were no particularly great candidates but it is what it is. Agreed, I thought we’d need a minimum of 7/12 points from the previous four games to remain in strong contention for third place so to gain zero and still (just about) remain 4th is incredible. By my reckoning, Glass had us on 24 points in seventh place after 19 games last season. -
