  1. Aye, Lavery latching onto the loose ball quick as a flash to grab the second and seal the points, decent stuff. The Blues probably deserving the spoils tonight?
  2. Speaking of those fluent in Portuguese, having served his time down south and his apprenticeship abroad, is it time for Steve Keen to come home?
  3. No match pass option for the LC Final, just the sign up option, to the monthly subscription on Premier Sports? [emoji848]
  4. Yep not a game for the purists perhaps, few clear cut opportunities, great chance near the end for Coleraine to take all three points. Linfield won’t be too unhappy given Larne’s though result eh? At least the draw at Windsor tonight keeps things interesting. Great to be able to watch the games on the iPlayer, think Larne away at Portadown is next up this coming Tuesday evening [emoji846][emoji106]
  5. Carrick’s recent run comes to a halt, plenty of goals though! Linfield with the opportunity to stretch their lead after Larne lose at Solitude?
  6. Might not have been the most entertaining game in terms of goal mouth-action and chances created (at both ends), but hard to argue that Rangers didn’t dominate throughout. Ryan Jack breaking the deadlock with a stunning strike, the only genuine effort in the first 40 minutes. Think Rangers supporters probably accept that as they continue their run, they are having to become more and more patient in breaking sides down. The pace of their build up however has become increasingly pedestrian over recent weeks, it’s much easier to defend and counter against, you can sense the frustration. Davis was excellent today, his consistency is providing the confidence needed across the team to keep grinding out the results, when the form of others has noticeably dipped a little. All credit to Killie today, perhaps encouraged with some ‘light touch’ referring particularly in the first half as they scrapped and spoiled in the middle of the park, but they didn’t lie down even when Rangers turned things up a notch after the break. I don’t think it was such a bad game at all, I’ve seen a lot worse on the box this season.
  7. What a result for Carrick down the road at Seaview!! [emoji835]️[emoji840][emoji835]️[emoji122][emoji41]
  8. Excellent features on Ronnie Marquis at Links Park and Steven Lennon in Iceland. Great interview with Shelley Kerr too (paying towards their own digs when playing for the National side and half a tracksuit each!![emoji15]). Very much look forward to this programme on a Friday night, it’s a really good watch.
  9. Think the reason Starmer hasn’t made any real headway since becoming leader of the opposition, hard to believe given who presently sits in government at WM, is that he comes across as just another career politician, another professional actor, straight off the conveyer belt with seemingly no open, genuine convictions whatsoever (despite his previous vocation), better suited to the stage.
  10. Carrick continuing to show some fight with a hard fought point and late equaliser against leaders Linfield at home last night, might even have nicked all three right at the end, Big Niall sounded almost disappointed! [emoji3] Certainly deserved their share of the spoils though after getting caught cold at the start. Not too much damage done for the Blues with Portadown also levelling things late against 2nd placed Larne (2-2).
  11. Welcome win for Carrick Rangers this afternoon at Stangmore Park! [emoji41][emoji108][emoji840][emoji835]️[emoji840]
  12. Not a great spectacle but keenly contested given the conditions, shame it was decided on an absolute joke of a decision to award the penalty. The modern ruling is a nonsense, completely unintentional and no advantage gained by Baird whatsoever.
  13. I think we’re in agreement here, other than it is the Compliance Officer who has the opportunity here to ensure probity across the board. This clearly isn’t happening. I’m not trying to defend the player, I’m simply questioning how the CO applies the consistency that is missing from decisions made by officials on the Park. He/She alone has the opportunity to deliver this parity, it appears neither can manage it currently. God help us if they’re eventually given the complexities of VAR to grapple with.
  14. Yep I can see most of that, but If the interpretation of the Law isn’t applied consistently and uniformly, there will always be claims of ‘whataboutery’. Fans will automatically compare and contrast, the Laws govern how the game is played? It’s much easier to accept inconsistencies across a number of referees but there’s only ONE Compliance Officer to make considerations, contest decisions and formally raise a complaint against a player if warranted. What excuse does the Compliance Officer have for such variances over the course of a season?
  15. Genuine question(s) here, how does the Compliance Officer decide which incidents have been missed by the match officials and which ones to raise a complaint against the offending player? How is this prioritised (there must have been numerous contentious decisions of dangerous foul play or otherwise, across the league this season already)? The Ref issued a Yellow in this case, so presumably saw the challenge and meted out what he thought was an appropriate punishment. When does the Compliance Officer step in and decide there is a case to be made for clear and serious Referee error?
  16. Not sure there could be any clearer evidence than this clip. The player goes down with absolute minimal contact, there’s no way the keeper forces that reaction. We either properly use retrospective judgement to punish ‘simulation’ in the box or coach goalkeepers into becoming shot stoppers only. All challenges on the deck are out, if forwards are able to ‘win’ such an easy advantage. Watching the Brighton Vs Fulham game the other week and listened to the pundits almost criticise the young Fulham forward Lookman for still trying to get his shot off on goal, falling away from a routine challenge in the box, not necessarily a foul btw. The view being that he should simply have gone down to try and ‘win’ the penalty. He was placed at fault (for doing the right thing in my book) in putting his team at a disadvantage, trying to score, unbelievable!! The next time, you can be sure he will drop like a stone.
  17. Ref completely conned there, hook, line & sinker. Happens right across the pro game these days. As soon as the forward ensures he has made the first touch, he leaves a foot in, then drops on contact from the hapless keeper. Seems to work every time. Some might call it gamesmanship, but it needs sorting.
  18. There’s no doubt Morelos has previous for reckless behaviour on the park, but viewed in real time, did he really intentionally stamp on Porteous? I honestly don’t think he did. It looks far worse in slow-mo. At normal speed, I think he attempts to trap the ball to ‘dig it out’ of the tackle and the legs of a prone defender. I don’t think how the ball bobbled on a difficult pitch helped timing (on a number of occasions on Wednesday evening) either. At worst careless, perhaps Morelos should simply have tried to hold his feet/position. I don’t believe on this occasion that he deliberately tried to injure his opponent though. Don’t have an axe to grind either way and if he’s found guilty of dangerous play, fair enough, if that’s how a review panel see it. I’m just not sure it’s such a clear call. For what is worth I don’t think McGregor intentionally stamped on Kamara either.
  19. It isn’t so far back that Chelsea were on an unbeaten run in the League and Europe of a dozen plus games Oct-Dec, when Lampard was receiving the plaudits for the team’s progress. How quickly it can change eh? [emoji15]
  20. Think McIntyre knew he was pressing the right buttons to get a reaction from Ross. The guy had just lost a cup semi by some distance after having a number of early chances to command the tie. Little wonder he was already cross and frustrated. Don’t think he did much wrong in the first half and was at a loss to explain how his side capitulated over the second 45. He didn’t have the immediate answers but the interviewer kept pushing (hardly fair to blame Ross for Saints scoring two absolutely cracking headers in-play surely?). He admitted it was his responsibility that his players didn’t show up in the 2nd half, I’m not sure what else he could have said. McIntyre sensed he’d rattled him, so continued with a repeated line of questioning. Not sure it did anyone any favours tbh.
  21. Congrats Livi, some season they’re having, what a run. Should make for a decent final at the end of Feb![emoji106]
  22. Just watched the re-run of the Crus Vs Larne game yesterday at Seaview. Thoroughly enjoyable game with a couple of cracking goals to savour. Fair play to Johnny McMurray for chasing down Larne’s third, rewarded for sheer determination. Without knowing the result, thought it must be the winner, but still time for young Ben Kennedy to calmly slot away an equalising penalty. Thought it was a really good advert for the Irish Premiership overall. Entertaining stuff! Think the next live Sky game is Linfield’s visit to Carrickfergus?[emoji848]
  23. Well played St Johnstone, thoroughly deserved, played Hibs like a violin. Bravo [emoji122]
  24. The fat lady must be warming up with a few notes by now. Scott Brown’s reckless sending off on Wednesday night pretty much summed up what remains of Celtic’s league challenge; an ugly defiance, nothing more. The remnants of any title hopes are palpably forlorn, they have given up. After a noticeable dip recently, an assured display by Rangers this afternoon, also a timely confidence boost for Wednesday’s tricky visit to Easter Road. An eventful trip in recent years! With key players returning however (Ryan Jack was straight back into the mix this afternoon), it’s difficult to see Rangers doing anything but pressing on from here now.
