  1. As a Clyde fan I know what it's like to watch garbage week after week but being as we are part time, broke and homeless there is some mitigation there. Then again, offering full time contracts to players in the 3rd tier of Scottish fitba kinda blurs the line between prudence and self-aggrandisement...... unless of course money is no object!
  2. Good points raised, but I don't agree it would necessarily take a good side to beat us - just an organised one based on your own observations! An organised (or even just dogged) defensive set-up playing on the break with a striker that doesn't need several attempts to even get a shot on target never mind score can see us off. That's just one reason why we keep losing or drawing against sides that, with respect, are no better than workmanlike on the day.
  3. At today's prices £1m for Shawfield - regardless of it's current state - is an absolute no-brainer and with a bit of creative thinking e.g. crowd funding is surely a possibility. That said, I haven't seen the immediate area for a good few years and wonder if access, parking and residential catchment might render the stadium itself a disaster in waiting and it would be madness to act on unsubstantiated promises in that respect. Then again, our board don't make daft gaffes, do they??!!
  4. Alloa 1 Dunfermline 1 Clyde 1 Montrose 0 Edinburgh 0 Airdrie 0 Peterhead 0 Falkirk 2 QOS 2 Kelty 0
  5. Would it be too cynical to suggest the longer term purpose of B Teams (which we all know is for the benefit of our disagreeable chums at Ibrox and Parkhead) is that these clubs secure their dream of joining the money- mountain that is the EPL while their back-up boys go all the way up here, thereby virtually guaranteeing the OF grab silverwear every season from one source and/or another.
  6. We need to shut the door at the back as scoring more than 1 goal in most games seems beyond us.
  7. Airdrie 2 QOS 0 Dunfermline 1 Clyde 2 Kelty 0 Peterhead 2 Montrose 2 Alloa 0 ......but if Peterhead are sunk by H-T (unlikely) I don't mind Dunfermline having their day.
  8. ....So do we enter the field on our knees and ask them to please not beat us? If you think you can't get a result then you surely won't.
  9. That's the thing, SL Clyde: You see it every season where teams that have had a dire campaign suddenly do the biz against all expectations right at the end. Whether it is largely down to opponents with no incentive to compete or complacency with sides in party mode doesn't matter. Corner a rat in a broom cupboard and trust me it won't roll over! I would expect us to go for it and Peterhead to do likewise if/when we don't take our chances. As for the (hopefully) playoffs, we have been mainly up against full time opposition all season so, without being disrespectful in any way, we should go into this expecting to prevail and chasing a win in both legs of the tie(s). That said, if we go down without a whimper and there is neither the money, the strategy, the demonstrable vision for the next campaign or (joke coming up) a "REAL businessman with investment" then it is Sayonara Clyde sooner rather than later.
  10. I think we have to really go for it at Dunfermline. Trying to contain them is not the answer. Peterhead will reasonably expect us to lose I imagine and are well capable of nicking the points against a Kelty side struggling this past while. Falkirk too have nothing to play for so it is entirely conceivable Blue Toon can take maximum 6 points if the door is still open after Saturday. I'm glad we are not away to Montrose as that has been a scene of persistent failure for some time now. In spite of the guff we have witnessed this season our squad are more than capable of securing the playoffs and surviving them. For me, the issue is that we have to overcome clubs that are better run than ours and who don't view mere survival as some sort of achievement!
  11. What's the odds on us needing a result v Montrose and relying on a result in the other game!!
  12. Social Media is just like the traditional Mass Media in that bad news and negativity "sells" better than good news, so this thread just conforms with that angle. My own contribution is just 1 simple statement and 1 simple question: STATEMENT When Ronnie MacDonald took over at Clyde and held his first meeting with the fans at Broadwood he opened the show with the direct and no-messing remark that the club were being run by lovely people who had Clyde at heart but who just hadn't a clue how to run a football club! QUESTION After all these years since he moved on has anything really changed on that front?
  13. After years of waiting and hoping to see Clyde do something, ANYTHING, to show they had genuine ambition to get even close to the Clyde of old I basically jacked in going along about 6 years ago and have seen them probably only 4 times or so since. While it is possible (albeit unlikely) that they have some pleasing signing coups to reveal to us in due course I rather suspect it will be as others here are anticipating i.e. makeweights, rejects and disinterested or inexperienced loanees. Is it always out of the question that some wealthy benefactor might want to take a punt on a famous old football club that still does have the potential to shine with the right backing and business acumen?
  14. Deciding who to keep is a decision that really has to be made without emotion - though the emotion can be expressed once the said decisions have been made! It really is cruelly simple: For every player out of contract ask yourself whether any other team in your division would be likely to offer him terms. If the answer is "no" then there is no justification in retaining his services. Talk of keeping such players as "back up" simply doesn't wash: if they are not first team standard then they can't be in the first team squad. We don't have the resources to carry passengers and everyone retained must be there for what they can do (and not for what they once did!).
  15. Ooooh, your B team? Are they the ones you usually loan out to struggling SPL clubs for game time because they can't break into your A team?
  16. Yes and didn't Peterhead burst a gut to stop Dumbarton from scoring more in 90 minutes than they usually do in a month?
  17. (spoken in a Michael Caine voice): "You realise, don't you that you shouldn't have upset Mr Goodwillie like that...."
  18. No offence, but I'm sure the next day's paper said something like "....so Clyde stay up and East Fife take the drop, which is no great loss!" It's just one of those things that always stuck in my memory, probably because it is unusual for a notionally neutral report to display such bias. That said, I think it was a reflection of East Fife's approach to the game in those days - certainly that season anyway!
  19. Feet on the ground time, I think: We didn't see what was coming v Montrose and every match is worth the same number of points.. I expect Danny will ensure they remain focussed on one game at a time because pre-guessing what we will take from these next 2 games is very dangerous. Also, without wanting to put dampener on things, Falkirk are NOT better than us: they just have the benefit of being full time and paid beyond their actual abilities. Seriously, how many of their team would you want in a Clyde shirt?.....and God forbid that we would ever end up with a total clown like McKinnon for a manager. There's a few in our team we are going to struggle to hold on to if/when we get into the position we want but let's enjoy it all while it lasts.
