  1. We knocked them out 5-2 on agg in 2015.. They knocked us out 0-4 on agg in 2019...but Delboy got his tactics wrong on this occasion and Ojo was sent off early in the second leg. Their stadium was one of the most spectacular I've ever visited and I class myself a bit of a groundhopper. But they've messed about with it since but it's location is right next to the Adriatic Sea I was also in with the traveling support when Rijeka played in Portugal against Vitoria Guimares. They got gubbed 0-4. Friendly enough support though.
  2. I'm not necessarily disagreeing with the sentiments but it's ne'er-do-well
  3. I've got a feeling this might be that Red John that use to pollute other forums
  4. I don't think it's the best move for the options available to him. As @Gall09 mentions, there's a lot of dross playing under-23s that are never going to be summoned to the first team. Ramsey needs to rise above that. Another season passing with, at best, around 5-10 first team appearances, possibly none, and then shunted out on loan down the leagues as 20 year old with around 30 first team appearances to his name. I think Leeds or, especially, an Italian team would focus more on exposing the player to first team football. That's the only way he'll truly develop, not being hidden away in the under-23s. A football player's career is short although the player himself will feel like he has time to develop. However, there are very few players like Ian Wright or Jamie Vardy that develop late. For me, I'd be advising the player to move where he can get first team football, at a good level and be given responsibility both on and off the field. That's why I'd like him to take a chance and head to Italy.
  5. I would've advised Ramsay to say no. He wouldn't be saying no to Liverpool first team, he's saying no to Liverpool's under-23s or whatever it is. His game needs so much development, defensively, positionally, and also his stamina and enthusiasm has been questionable on the sparse evidence we have so far. I don't think a Michael Hector type loan career will do him good, and doesn't exactly endear you to the loan team's support if things go through a sticky spell. I think Italy was the best move for him both personally and to develop his game especially the defensive aspects. However, I would also think even Leeds would've had more fruitful possibilities than Liverpool. He's basically got a season to somehow impress in the under-23s otherwise they'll look elsewhere and Ramsey will quickly become a yesterday's man.
  6. Aye, just like we was very very close to getting Zbigniew Boniek from Juventus in 1984... I would tend to treat with skepticism anything that we were very close to but didn't quite come off...why bother tell us fans about it? There must be lots of players we try for but don't come off.
  7. It would interesting to see how many fans Scotland would attract to Hampden under these circumstances. The home support would probably be akin to Queen's Park.
  8. Christie was a good player for us, but we were a very good team that benefited him too. Whether he would have scored against us in the final after being on-loan at Hibs is a moot point but the fans perception is that we've prepared a player to become a match winner against us in a final. Anyway, at the time, he was playing alongside better players than he would at any other Scottish side apart from Celtic (and that included Sevco). We also have a member of the opposition that has temporarily been in our dressing room. Now that might happen anyway if they buy one of our players but here we're giving the opposition a free insight into us. However, we are not now directly competing for honours with Celtic, nor are we the second best club so the conditions now are very different. It does not sit comfortably with me that we are loaned players from the Gruesomes, indeed it shouldn't sit comfortably with any Aberdeen supporter.
  9. We also lost a League Cup Final to a Ryan Christie goal a few months after he returned from spending a couple of years at Pittodrie getting himself ready for the Celtic first team. What happens if we need a win against Celtic to secure a European spot and we lose our main central defender for the match? Or the four matches we lose Scales for against Celtic cost us our European place? Or maybe we should take the diddy approach and say anything we get off the Gruesome Twosome is a bonus "but doesn't define our season" shite...
  10. The most important stat confirms Wales won and are going to the World Cup and we lost and aren't. If you want to make yourself feel better and think that the Welsh are jammy then fill your boots but we'll still be outsiders looking in again when the footballing world reconvenes in November. For the first hour against Ukraine we were absolutely awful and felt like the opposition would score everytime they broke up the pitch. I didn't watch the Welsh match but I find it hard to believe that they played worse than we did and managed to win 1-0.
  11. Was this his only visit to Scotland? Or was he here in 1990? Which street/hotel is that taken?
  12. I'd prefer if we looked elsewhere and I think Goodwin will do just that...
  13. I actually agree with you. Moyes would be an excellent replacement but he ain't coming anytime soon, so I'd probably persist with Clarke but he seems so stubborn that I don't see him learning anything from his errors.
  14. You see no reason? Apart from it being a similar submissive performance last night as it was against the Czechs and Croatians last summer It's no shame to lose against Ukraine but the manner in which we played for the first hour was embarrassing, the lack of fight, no attempt to put enough pressure on a very shaky opposition goalkeeper. At the end of the day, we supporters should get other attempts to see us qualify for the World Cup but for the players it will be the last or second last chance. They need to live with the fact that they didn't step up to the plate on an important evening in their own careers.
  15. Austria Vienna also got dumped by Breiðablik to set up a tie against us so I'm more inclined to think this is a better gauge. Although that's no reflection on the boy that might be incoming. He will be judged on his own merits not by the standard by the Austrian second tier.
  16. I was just thinking that if this new stadium is ever built then I hope we retain Pittodrie in the stadium name....New Pittodrie Stadium or The Pittodrie 2.0 stadium. Well maybe not the latter but something along the Pittodrie lines..
  17. Rumours are like mini-skirts .. they are nice to look at and give you good ideas but hide the most important parts- the truth
  18. Well hopefully but we've seen it before. The lad has a good season (or couple of months) in the top league but at a team generally considered smaller than ourselves (see Matty Kennedy), then comes to us and doesn't perform, meanwhile aforementioned smaller team replaces him with someone just as good or better from the same kind of place they got the boy they punted to us... It does strike me also as a lazy signing if it happened and I much preferred Joseph Hungbo anyway.
  19. He did well last season, but this kind of signing gives me the fear...
  20. That says that we've played Forfar Athletic once competitively away from home and we have six goals for and two goals against, but I watched us beat Forfar Athletic 4-0 in the Scottish Cup at Station Park in 2012. And it says we've played Allloa Athletic once at home competitively but I remember a 5-0 home win in the Scottish Cup in 1985, 4-0 in the Skol Cup in 1986 and 0-0 when we won the League Cup in 2013/2014. EDIT: it doesn't include Scottish Cup or League Cup fixtures
  21. I'm hoping for Peterhead & Raith at home and Dumbarton & Stirling away
  22. Does nobody care about the League Cup draw or is it on a separate thread?
  23. Actually, good player for the Dons but what an horrendous career history. It seemed better than to be a loanee from Reading for six years then a loanee from Chelsea for another four. There needs to be a limit placed on player squads.
  24. I wouldn't mind Cowdenbeath from Pot 5 as I've never seen them face The Dons and the chances of that happening in the near future after this draw are now extremely slim.
