  1. Just reading through the excellent online proggy for the Hibs game. A couple of things stand out.... Admission prices for SPFL 1 games for the 23/24 season have been set at £11 Adults and £6 and under 18's. From memory the Ainslie Park prices for 21/22 were £14 adults and initially increased to £18 for 22/23, before being reduced to £12 halfway through last season. Later on in the proggy (page 37), we learn that the club shop is going to close and the catering van will be removed 'among with other cost cutting measures'. It'll be difficult to freeze my bits off at Meadowbank in December without even a cup of tea to warm me up! Now I ain't no accountant but I thought that the blindingly obvious thing to do would be to set Adult prices at £12 - £14 minimum rather than reduce them further than last seasons £12. Average attendance last season was 569 fans and that included 2 big gates against Dunfermline which won't be repeated. Obviously I don't have any knowledge of the inner financial workings of the club but things just don't stack up for me.
  2. Everybody has scored that same goal against Falkirk
  3. The George Square binmen will be rubbing their hands at the prospect of another overtime claim
  4. Thanks - I am a casual fan and saw around 10 games last season home and away.
  5. I'd be interested to find out what experience (if any) the new board have had in running a football club, sourcing players, negotiating contracts and appointing managers. And also if the loose loan agreement with Hibs is going to be maintained or not.
  6. Well done to Airdrie from an Edinburgh City fan. You wiped the floor with us on Saturday and kept that going last night it would appear....
  7. Yeah it was a bit woeful. First time I've been along in a while. It is a blessing that City didn't make it near the play offs as we'd have been mullered by whoever we played. Overall a successful season, given that we were everyone's favourites for bottom place. I think it will be a much changed club at the start of next season, with Chairman Jim gone. I'd guess half of the first team squad as well. Owner Tom is trying to sell, so will the funds dry up? Alan Maybury has done a decent job but I feel his stature has been dented by a truly dreadful run from mid January onwards. And whisper it - if Spartans get promoted to League 2 then they would be the 3rd team in Edinburgh by size of fanbase.
  8. Last time I looked, the objective of a game of association football was either to (a) win or (b) not lose. Ours was (c) do something different than the previous 2 games that saw us getting turned over by Peterhead and Clyde. I don't think our lads were too embarrassed to park the bus.
  9. Both are reasonable points! The Edinburgh City (I can't use the 'new' name) fanbase was pretty buoyant at the end of the last season and was certainly growing. The PR car crash with the change of name, the abomination of Meadowbank as a spectator facility, the crappy new club badge and tons of other things has alienated a huge percentage of the fans. There was a bunch of guys that did organise a coach to away games but that has fallen by the wayside. This has led to a ton of antipathy from even causal supporters which is why there are no away fans and even no recent comments on the club P&B thread. We did retain a lot of the play off winning squad , and signed Liam Fontaine, which is why we punched above our weight for the first half of the season.
  10. The team have given up the ghost for the season, and so have the fans! A deserved win yesterday and Good luck for the rest of the season.
  11. I was at the 2nd January game (which was a storming encounter - 5-3) and there must have been at least 24 in the away section. Airdrie still ran out of pies though....
  12. I'm sorry, I've read some ridiculous comments on P&B, but this one just about tops the lot. "Holding a spot for a team lower down the Pyramid"? Like who? That's why there is a pyramid. To encourage teams to progress on the pitch, do something for their communities and see what they can achieve. I am sure the likes of Berwick, Cowdenbeath, Brechin would trade places, but there you are. Telling the club to effectively go back to playing on park pitches in the East of Scotland league because your fans outnumbered ours and you didn't get a decent view smacks of elitism and entitlement. There are hundreds of comments on any thread involving ECFC about how terrible Meadowbank is to watch football. Everybody gets that, the club gets that, and nobody is questioning that they have been shafted by the council and the local planners. Good luck in the play offs. Must be a sore prospect to have to face more games at Meadowbank next year!
  13. He mainly played right back for City. He did OK for an 18 year old but had a tendency to advance 10 yards with the ball and then pass it behind him to the centre back. Played the last couple of games at CB and did better IMHO. With all 3 Hibs loan players returned to Easter Road this week, and the December friendly binned, this suggests that the much trumpeted special relationship between the two clubs isn't quite going to plan.
  14. Thought Brydon has done OK at Centre Back but no great shakes as a right back. Not really seen the best of EJ or Delferriere. I am guessing that Hibs have recalled them rather than City wanting to send them back. Or, perhaps Chairman Jim has struck a loan deal with the Jambos .....
  15. Agreed. There were plenty of Pars fans in the home section, all decent folk. But like you say, all it would take is one or two to take offence at our Young Team and it could kick off a little. The toilets are a joke, 3 portaloos for > 1,000 people is just ridiculous and possibly some penny pinching from the home club. Yes, there is planning permission granted for a stand on the opposite side of the pitch where your fans were watching with binoculars yesterday. It would be outside the running track, so no idea what happens to the dugouts which obviously obscure the view. The issue is that all of the land surrounding Meadowbank has been sold to developers to build umpteen flats. There is a tiny patch of land owned by the developers which the club would need to obtain access to the stand (so we are told). This came to light after the planning permission had been obtained. The latest rumour is that the new stand can't be built until the flats are built, which could be > 2 years even if they started now. So probably the best thing all round is if City stick around in League 1 for a season or two, and only have to cope with a crowd > 500 people 4 or 6 times a season.
  16. Agreed. By far and away the best team in this league, well done today. City were mostly ponderous with the ball today, and played with a lot of fear. Apart from Fontaine who was classy as usual. The play offs will do us just fine, let's see what happens.
  17. There was a pieless van for the Peterhead game a couple of weeks ago. For the first home game against the Pars there was an extra van on the far side of the pitch but I couldn't tell you what that sold. McDonalds right opposite the stadium so that might be an option for you pre-game. Nae pies though....
  18. I'm in complete agreement with you here. I am sure 99% of Edinburgh City fans who have ever watched an SPFL away match would share your view as well.
  19. Yes good point! The lack of any sort of elevation from either the standing area or the seats means that you are only really seeing 50% of the game. Are you the lad that chucked his blue Santa hat on to the running track when you went 4-0 behind?
  20. There will be a standing area for Pars fans directly behind the goal - go back to the start of this thread and you'll see my post on this very subject.
