Can someone translate what "Discipline" and "Major" are from the American education system to what we would do? Strangely it's part of an application form for a job with the Commonwealth Games.

My guess is 'discipline' is a specific event and 'major' is what they call the highest level of competition ie. Major League Baseball. I wouldn't take this as the definitive though.

Discipline: An area of academic study or branch of knowledge that constitutes a field unto itself. Examples include accounting, agronomy, art history, electrical engineering, political science, and social work, etc. Disciplines in turn are often grouped under broader designations according to their subject, such as business, engineering, fine arts, humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences. “Multidisciplinary” or “interdisciplinary” courses or research combine the subject areas of more than one discipline.

Major: The field of study that comprises an undergraduate’s academic specialization while at university/college. In the U.S. system of higher education, students typically “declare” a major within the first two years of their undergraduate careers. Majors tend to require 10–12 courses in a specific discipline or area of knowledge. Used also as a verb (“I am majoring in psychology”).

Do you think Scatman John was aware of the "other" definition of Scat and he was just having a laugh, or do you think he'd be turning in his grave if he knew he'd written song telling everyone how much he loves "Scheisserporn?"

He was American so he probably knew about the "other" meaning of John

I got an iPhone yesterday and when I logged onto my Apple ID (which I hadn't used since 2011 when I had an iPod touch), all my previous purchases were there. The utter shite I used to listen to back in the day has thus made its way onto the music section of my phone - I thought I had deleted them from my iTunes but apparently they're hiding in an 'iCloud' somewhere and I can't appear to get rid of it. Any suggestions? Or will I be listening to Alexandra Burke's 'Bad Boys' for the rest of my days?

Was buying that out of pity for the Peterhead thing or was it a genuine buy? Like getting a crap tattoo because it seemed good at the time, you deserve it for life if it was the latter imo.

I can't remember - I was 14/15 at the time of purchase. Give us a break, man.

Going for a night out in Edinburgh tonight, is WhyNot a decent night out for a bunch of 20 year old guys?

No idea. I'm almost old enough to be your grandad. If you're after insanely priced bevvy whilst ogling screeching orange harridans in knockoff Laboutins, I'm not your man.

Gie's a shout if you want to know where the good boozers are though. :)

It's the kind of place you might see a professional footballer behaving badly

Is that what you're after?

I lost my phone at the weekend after a night out. I've filed it with the police and alerted the insurance company, just waiting on EE to get back to me before sending forms back to the insurance. Anyone know how long it will take to get a new phone out to me (presuming I get one)?
