Who's Going To Uni?

You shouldn't underestimate them, the guy convinced me to buy a socialist book for a fiver. But one of his primary reasons for hating the bourgeois was war and oppression but he admitted it would be a violent revolution (or "as peaceful as possible) and he would supress any captialist parties afterwards.

I got to the final of the pool competition in the QMU around 2 but lost on the black, it was worth a free gym membership for a year as well.

I feel pretty worried as I have joined far too many clubs, I'll just go to the taster sessions and decide what I want to continue.

Go capitalism :D

It is for all these reasons that a party with genuine socialist pretensions will never be in power in Britain again. They're living in a bygone era of class politics when the classes they represent no longer exist (or at least in their previous form).

Unlucky! I suppose the difference between the Unions can be best displayed in that the prizes for the GUU events were crates of Stella!

I think it's just a case of over-subscribe then pick and choose generally. That's what I'm doing.

The Scottish Conservative & Unionist party were at our freshers fair. Strangely, I didn't see any Socialist Societies trying to gain members. I'd have thought it would be the other way around. It's not really surprising students tend to fall to the left of the spectrum, quite a few are utter p***ks that expect everything to be provided for them. A few always moan about having to pay for print-outs. Diddums, eh? Maybe if they lived a couple of hundred miles to the South they'd have a few valid complaints about cost...

On the other hand, I remember some nutter deciding to email all law Society members about a night out that was planned. She was complaining that the bar they were going to was owned by the israeli government, and that due to the conflict with Palestine, we should boycott  . That'd really put the shiters up Israel, that would. Even worse, the organisers actually changed the venue if I remember correctly. I didn't really care either way, I went to Cav instead.

The same student was also dragged off campus by security a couple of weeks later. She'd been handing out pro-Palestine propaganda and eventually began to badger people. After repeatedly being asked to leave and refusing, she was dragged off.

Edit: And no, I didn't join the Scottish Conservative & Unionist party, before anyone starts!

One of the daft pretend lefty parties tried to win president of the students union this year on the promise to end library fees (because their candidate was a twat and somehow ran up £70 on two books), reduce the price of everything and get rid of the University's water canister contract with an Israeli bottling company. Fortunately he was gubbed by the forces of pragmatism.

going to strathclyde uni, freshers is next week, and am very very excited :)

off this week from work and next week so i can party then recover then party again :D:D:D

Think I went to one day in four years worth of Freshers Weeks, slipping on puke in the Barony is not my idea of fun.

Went to a few more at Napier, but I was in halls in Haymarket so had more reason to go, and didn't have to get the last train or anything like that.

TGI is always mobbed during it with drunk people standing on the tables, then falling of the tables, and well you get the idea....

The only good reason to go is to rip the arse out of the free money for opening bank accounts ploy, then closing the account a week later.

I'm hitting number five tonight! Don't think I'll drink much if at all though, I've got two thngs to be at for 9am and I'm very much sleep deprived as it is, so getting totally smashed again is a bad idea.

Oops.

If I can get signed up for the tutorials I want tomorrow and Friday, then my timetable looks OK. Will be trying to keep Wednesday blank so I get a nice wee day off for my 18th. :D

Managed that at least. Although I had to sign up for a two hour Education tutorial at 9am on Friday. That'll be awful.

One of the lucky bits I've managed with my timetable. Friday off until the afternoon when I have two lectures.

My timetable is splendid.

A 2 hour tutorial on Monday afternoon, Another couple of 2 hour tutorials on a Thursday. Tuesday, Wedensday and Friday off.

This two hour tutorial thang better not be second year at Strathclyde' bound.

FWIW I can't register until my SAAS clears and it hasn't as yet. So I have no idea what my timetable is like apart from my politics lectures. They give me Friday off. :)

I've got Thursday free so far, although I've still got four tutorials to sign up for. Going to try to keep it, though. My earliest start so far is 11 AM. :D

I'm close to retracting all of my scathing comments about Studio.

I've only had a quick pint in there so far, but it seems they've taken on board all of my (non-official, I'm not a gay) complaints about how shite it was, and they've replaced their Tennents, Stella and Murphy's draught with a fairly wide selection, including the brilliant Red Stripe, on tap!

It's still about £2.40 for a pint, but at least it's not a pint of piss.

I was delighted when I went in on Sunday to discover that they had Red Stripe on tap. I've never seen that anywhere.

Red Stripe should only be drank in can format.

I previously thought so too, but the pint was actually pretty shit hot. I wasn't even aware that there was such a thing as Red Stripe on tap.

Edit: On another note, £73 a year gym membership is sensational.

I've never had a pint of Red Stripe, I really must try it. It's fantastic out a can.

The sports facilities at Stirling are shit-hot. You been to the pool yet?

Yeah, Studio definitely seems better than I remembered.

Been to the gym twice so far, but not tried out the pool yet. Think I'll maybe head in tomorrow, I'll either do that or go for a run. Apparently it's a proper Olympic sized pool? I don't even think that I went there when I used to be at Stirling back in 2005/06, quite looking forward to it.

Incidentally, are any other people in first year at Stirling doing either Scottish History, Philosophy or French?

It's a proper Olympic pool but sometimes they split it in half to two 25m pools. It's usually so that the swimming team or something like that can practice in one half and still leave half open for swimming.

There's a timetable on Stirling Uni's website to show when it's available at its full 50m size and when it's going to be split / lane / recreational swimming and stuff like that.

Sounds good, I'll have a look into that. 50m pools are great, although it's a nightmare when you lok up expecting to be close to the end of your length and realise that you're not even half way there yet.
