Who's Going To Uni?

Recommended Posts

Aye, that's what we've been doing all week. Still haven't ventured into Stirling, hopefully we'll do that on Thursday night, even if I am up early for a lecture.

I didn't make iat into Stirling for almost a whole semester. Oh, and like Gordon EF, I didn't make friends with many in my course until the last couple years. Its much easier when the course has effectively been whittled down to 20-30 people.

I was in dusk again tonight. I was looking out for xbl but no such luck.

Thats because I'm in Madrid on work purposes! Last night I was out in a bar, celebrating Mexican independence day. Today, I'm dying. :(

A couple of people I spoke to were in the same boat with regard to registering. I was able to register today because I filled in all the courses I wanted to do this year on the Pre-Registration, so it was Faculty Approved before today.

Free beer in the GUU Hive was decent. We bailed after a couple to the QMU BBQ and siphoned off burgers by the ancient art of skipping the queue and rejoining it after getting your first burger, and repeating ad infinitum.

I never came across a Fives Tournament Advert. We spent most of our day being hounded by the OTC.

I was in the bar downstairs, I've not been to hive yet.

It was some guy from C7 church on university avenue.

I have to arrange another meeting with my adviser of studies before she can approve me.

Pendulum's DJ set was unreal - the only problem was that they put Ministry of Sound AFTER it. Talk about anti-climax!

Simon Bird tonight - get fucking in :)

Unfortunately I doubt I would immediately recognise Supras or Exuberant - we'll have to plan a meeting :)

I'm going to the black and gold party tonight and since the only thing I have that's black and gold is the St. Mirren home top I'm considering wearing that...

Did you c***s just show up at freshers week on your tod and just attach yourself to somebody?

I could never do that, for my freshers two years ago I just went with my mate who wasn't even at Uni, and knew nobody until about a week after my course started

I attached myself to two guys who already knew each other. I was hanging around with them for most of yesterday talking about football.

Well f**k that. By the time I got there (at least an hour before it was meant to start) the GUU was literally full.

I was in the GUU and waiting in the queue with half an hour to go and was told to leave because it was full but there was a massive queue outside. Felt a bit bad ditching a

girl who had bought me a pint and gave me her yellow armband but the football was on in the QMU so went to watch that.

Was at the Freshers fair and the sports fair and signed up to far too many clubs, near the end of the day I even signed up to the gaelic society because I thought it was the yoga society  . Also signed up for ultimate frisbee, trampolining etc.

I was arguing with a guy from the socialist society for about half an hour until Charles Kennedy walked past and the guy called him a "bourgeoisie b*****d", he was a middle aged man.

There isn't that much on today, might go to the big pub quiz and 1:00 in the QMU and the black and gold party afterwards, can't really be bothered going to see a hypnotist.

I get on OK with my flatmates but they are either very shy or spend alot of time with schoolfriends, but I've made a few friends from my course (one of whoms a Thistle fan - had long discussion about how shite Clyde are) and a couple of legends whos flat had emptied or just gone out on their own to meet new people. About 7 of us ended up at some guys flat after Twin Atlantic, I can remember something like 3 names, and I knew one of them from before!

Well f**k that. By the time I got there (at least an hour before it was meant to start) the GUU was literally full.

Same, I was waiting for the bus at Murano Street realised it wasn't coming (the fuckers at the GU could have informed us that the bus was only a ploy to try to compete with Pendulum - WHICH THEY COULDN'T), walked down, still arrived at about 7.40 - Was nowhere near getting in.

Went to Twin Atlantic and had a fun evening - so its not all bad :)

I was in the bar downstairs, I've not been to hive yet.

IT. IS. AWESOME.

I'm planning to head to the pins v headphone disco - should be banterous :)

A common interest makes things run so much more smoothly - although when with people who already knew each other I kind of feel a bit like an outsider

I've signed up for squash, an orchestra audition (I will get in unless theres another tuba player somewhere - which I really really doubt) and the band society - I wanna be in a rock band!

This year, I've only really got to know the other people in my flat so far, luckily we're all around the same age. Last time, I met a guy because we were both lost looking for our class times for maths (it wasn't done online in these days) and ended up becoming good enough mates to go on holiday with him a few months later. I actually went out (to Dusk again, which was epic again) with him and his mates last night as he's still here.

Think I'm going to take it easy tonight. That's three nights in a row for me now, I'm getting too old for this shit.

I signed up for squash too and will be at the taster session on Friday.

Never played before so will likely be shit.

Personal experience of treating weirdos with disdain: yes.
How can you possibly treat yourself with disdain? That's quite an achievement.

C'mon man, you're better than that :(

Thats me on the beers again, will be my 3rd in a row and my 5th since Friday. Classes for me tomorow at 12. Need to remember to set my alarm when I get back... if I get back, mates ended up in Glasgow and Perth the other day.

Watch it you. :P

Had it on yet?

Aye, wore it last night on my way to joining a queue not to get into Simon Bird.

I personally quite like it, though *some people* on here frown upon such paraphernalia.

I'm hitting number five tonight! Don't think I'll drink much if at all though, I've got two thngs to be at for 9am and I'm very much sleep deprived as it is, so getting totally smashed again is a bad idea.

If I can get signed up for the tutorials I want tomorrow and Friday, then my timetable looks OK. Will be trying to keep Wednesday blank so I get a nice wee day off for my 18th. :D

 the number of Left Wing Groups on Campus is actually unreal. Every time I see people handing out copies of the Socialist Worker I want to start an argument with them. Then there's the "Left Wing Society" or some shite like that, And millions upon millions of "BAN THE NAZI BNP" posters, which somewhat ironically miss the point that it was precisely fascism that prevented freedom of expression and plurality!

Kennedy was top rate at the Freshers' Address by the way.

I've pretty much stayed clear of the QMU. Nothing much there really interests me. I was in the pool and snooker comps at the GUU this afternoon and got to the semi-final in the latter. One suspects I'll be spending rather a lot of time there.

So far I've joined up to the Law Society, Dialectic Society (Debating), Choral Society and the Cricket Club. I was thinking about doing Squash but I reckon that lot will probably keep me pretty busy as it is. I played a bit of Squash in School last year and might get involved again if I've got time on my hands.

Mushroom, you and I need to meet up at some point. How about the GUU Beer Bar at about 4:30-5 ish tomorrow? The drinking competitions start at 7 so we can bag ourselves spectator seats!

Not really, communism does the same, but better.

Thoguh it is very annoying to see 'left-wing' 'radicals' going to Glasgow Uni of all places. The parody writes itself ffs.

I managed to piss off the computing club at Stirling today by asking if it was the 80's BASIC club, going by the age of the stuff they had set up.

The army also tried to recruit me, saying that I "looked the type". I'm not sure if that's a compliment or not.

It had actually never occured to me until today (strange as this sounds) that the forces will need engineers / mathematicians as well as troops, so that's something else to consider.

 legend.

Astonishingly they do have very good computers at Stirling. I can only assume they weren't allowed to remove the good ones from the labs and instead had to set up any old shite in the atrium.

Rather cheerfully, if it had actually been an 80s BASIC club then I'd have probably been quite interested!

What were you expecting, the Margaret Thatcher Glasgow appreciation society?

While generally fashionable for students to go to the left as a default setting (to the point where it almost embarrases me into a right wing position on occasion  ) I challenge anyone to find much sympathy for the conservatives in central Scotland regardless.

You could always start your own lil'Tories of Scotland club, the unions do give start up money for societies, don't they (they do at HW anyway)
