SaltyTON
I got my first ever university essay back from my History tutor today. In the grand scheme of things, is 63% an okay mark? He didn't really say if it was or not. Depends what you're doing, if you're doing an arts degree then it's okay, if you're doing a scientific, legal or technical subject then it's good. It's far easier to get a good mark on something which is entirely in layman's terms (I can't really think of a good way to put it, no technical terminology or anything like that) than where you actually need to know what you are talking about.

NotThePars
History next Thursday Two of the four questions look appealing - "The most important revolutionaries were those with ideas not guns. Discuss" Or "'Where applied by historians to varied and dissimilar events, 'Revolution' is too often a term inaccurately used." Discuss. Not sure which to write on yet. Politics is in two weeks today And I have one more English essay to complete for the 6th and I'm finished till the 17th of January.

Widge
In 2 weeks isn't before December. Next monday is the 22nd, the Monday after that is the 29th, surely there aren't 2 mondays in a week.

Ad Lib
Got my Politics Essay back. B2. Okay, not brilliant. Probably submit another one to try to bump it up a bit. Apparently I didn't refer enough to the core text, and should have focused more on greater sorts of being without a polis even though after a fleeting reference Aristotle just ignores it... Ho hum.

I never said it was 2 weeks from today, I just said 2 weeks, and the Monday 2 weeks from now is the 29th.
NotThePars
You get your questions beforehand? Jings... Yeah, how common is this actually? I was surprised to hear that we might not have unseen exams till Third Year but I assumed that was a common thing at university, certainly across the Social Sciences. Got a B1 for the Politics essay, reasonably pleased. Edited November 19, 2010 by NotThePars
Supras
Yeah, how common is this actually? Got a B1 for the Politics essay, reasonably pleased. I fucking wish. I've never had any exams where we were given the questions beforehand. I don't know anyone at Glasgow who has. First ever A I've gotten at university, it was a shambles of a multiple choice exam and there weren't enough seats in the exam hall, but I'll take it anyway. First and probably last. I would have loved a B2 in my politics, I think missing out on a 6 year has badly damaged my essay writing technique. I've never written a good essay at uni.
endieinreekie
He was still there as of August. Nowhere near as much a legend as the Prof, but still a decent lecturer. Probably on the fast track to becoming a Grand Master in his local Lodge.

Anyone who has an open-paper exam and fails should just chuck it tbh. The Dutch grading system goes from 1-10 and you need 5.5 to pass. No-one gets a 10 and 9's are excellent. Got an 8 for History of IR which was good and a 6 for American Studies which was acceptable. It's a piece of fucking pretentious shit so all I want to do is pass. But the most important news is that I've bought a stunning leather Finlay jacket before my presentation on Wednesday. With the red scarf combination I can't possibly fail.
