Dave Brailsford spending his rest day by having a rant at a journo. Bit unfair on his riders as you just know what they'll be getting asked about next.

Just as well Sky are clean, transparent and above board, otherwise this Full Armstrong behaviour might look a tad suspicious.

I think he knows the net is closing in. He's cornered.

Having seen the Cycling News articles, I do have a bit of sympathy for him, they make the Sun look like it has incisive journalism. Sky have made a mess of things that's for sure but you have to ask why the focus is constantly on this and there is virtually no discussion around stuff like Cardoso being suspended before the tour for actually failing a drugs test.

Cycling won't get clean(er) by Journalists being so annoyed at Sky's behaviour that they ignore the actual stuff going on under their nose.

Strange stage today. Kittel was in trouble early on so Sunweb put the hammer down to try and get Michael Matthews away to attempt to eat into the 79 point advantage that Kittel held over him for the green jersey. It worked a treat as Kittel ended up nowhere and Matthews won the 20 points for the intermediate sprint and 30 for the stage win.

Crosswinds were bad late in the stage and caused another split, Dan Martin was the biggest loser as he got caught in the second group and lost 50ish seconds on GC and slipped down a place.

Dan Martin has had some terrible luck this tour.

Two big mountain stages coming up with attacks guaranteed from Aru and Bardet although the sky train will probably have too much power.

Yep, most of the time he had lost before today was mainly down to going arse over tit when he hit Porte and the after effects of it.

Dan Martin has done his best to try and make some gains on the Galibier, but just hasn't managed to shake anyone off. Aru list ground just before the summit and will have to try and make it up on the descent.

Brilliant ascent by Primoz Roglic, he's about 1.30 up and it's downhill all the way to the finish, he should have enough to take the stage win.

So Aru lost about half a minute, Uran took the 6 seconds bonus with Froome pipping Bardet on the line for 3rd place and 4 seconds.

GC now has Froome leading, with Uran and Bardet second and third 27 seconds back. Uran gets second by a few hundredths of a second.

Was an interesting stage for most of the day today, helped by Contador going on the attack then the big guns all having a go at each other on the final climb. Nieve and Henao haven't been much help in the mountains but Landa is so strong and Kwiatokowski is doing so much work that it doesn't seem to hinder Froome too much. There will surely be attacks in the last couple of kilometres tomorrow, there'd be no point attacking early with the HC summit finish, but Froome has the advantage of having Landa there to help if he needs it. Aru will presumably give it a go to try and get back into the podium places but Uran is a better time trail man I think. Think it'll be Froome, Uran, Bardet to the end now unless Bardet gets a time bonus or something tomorrow.

The Women's Tour (la Course) has expanded from a one-off sprint on the Champs Elyesse to a 2-stage race which starts today and is live at the moment on ITV4. Today it's the final 67km of the parcours that the men take on later including the summit finish on the lol d'Izoard. Then they'll do the same (or similar) TT course as the men in Marseille. A step in the right direction? The Giro has a proper 10 stage tour (the only Grand Tour left) and only 3 World Tour mens teams (Orica-Scott, Astana and Sunweb) have a womens team but the racing is decent and the likes of Deignan, van der Breggen and Vos are great athletes in their own right.

I'd love to see Uran and Bardet properly work together.

Would Barguil help Bardet to try and get a French win? It's certainly looking like win or bust on this final climb, and even then you would think he has to take about a minute plus out of Froome to give him a fair chance of hanging on after the time trial.
