kiddy
So you will be able to name another rider who made this kind of leap aged 32 or older?Chris Horner did it when he was 42! [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]
kiddy
Reminds me a bit of Ryder Hesjedal. Won first grand tour at 32. Had one top 10 finish in a grand tour prior to the win. Came from a mountain biking background. Thomas from a track background. One thing that seems unusual is Britain have gone from having never won (or really looked like winning) a grand tour, to utter domination with a 6th win in 7 years upcoming. Steady, Robert Millar/Philippa York came 4th in the Tour & 2nd, twice, in the Vuelta and Giro. Years before #marginalgains were even thought about.
kiddy
He has won Paris Nice. He’s won the Critérium. In Grand Tours he has always been riding for someone else. To compare him to Horner is absolutely fucking ludicrous.Even Nibali couldn't compare to Horner in that Vuelta.[emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]
kiddy
Just remember though, he's holding off another 2 GT winners, in Quintana & Dumoulin, as well as the best of his generation, Froome, with 6.
kiddy
Froome knocked off his bike, by a Gendarme, on his way back down. Thought he was a Joe Public chancer, apparently! See this Instagram video by @marcvisa14
peasy23
Sprint finish as expected today, only major drama was Quintana crashing. Took a fair bit of damage and had lengthy treatment.
kiddy
Can see Froome covering, then going over the top of an attack (Quintana?), & Thomas defending what he has against Dumoulin/Roglic. Whether that would put the Kenyan within touching distance, or even in yellow, is another matter.
peasy23
Excellent performance by Roglic, forced Froome and Dumoulin to work very hard to protect their podium places, but it looks like Roglic has gone up to 3rd in the GC.
kiddy
Can see Roglic taking 2nd, with Dumoulin 3rd. Can't see Froome taking 30 secs off him. He looks knacked.
peasy23
GC standings:1. Thomas2. Dumoulin +2.053. Roglic + 2.244. Froome +2.37Dumoulin a bit miffed in his interview, said that Roglic only got away from him on a straight section of descent because he was in the slipstream of a motorbike.

kiddy
Eurosport & ITV both have the race over, forgetting the ITT & things that can go wrong, punctures/crashes etc. Being under pressure can do funny things, remembering Rasmussen's TT from hell.

kiddy
Or Fignon's. Don't think Lemond could believe he went through the rest of his life counting to four.
welshbairn
Just got into pro cycling this year with the Tour de France. The scenery helps. Peter Sagan was the most impressive thing for me today, apparently he was spotted yesterday with bandages around his chest which would suggest bruised ribs, which from experience is incredibly painful. That's aside from his legs and arms. https://twitter.com/nini784/status/1022911401550139392 Edited July 27, 2018 by welshbairn
printer
It's fucking astounding how these guys manage to get back on the bike and keep going after crashes like that. It really is.
kiddy
Dull & damp for the ITT today, but not quite the downpour, Armstrong did the rain dance for, to beat Ulrich in 03.
kiddy
Hepburn just took 2.10 MINS off Bodnar (who won last year's final TT)! 42.15 quickest yet.
