wunfellaff
Has anyone on here made overall profit from gambling, or has everyone lost money? Does it matter? People gamble for various reasons, some of which are the cash not being really relevant. For myself if I went to the casino or the dogs or the races, I would 'expect' to lose maybe £200 as part of the day/night. Profit would be a bonus. Overall, I would be up fair bit on the footie, prob within a grand or 2 either way on the dogs, down on the horses and WELL down on the puggies and poker. Though up on 3 card brag as a teenager would prob cover the horrendous online poker.

What sort of football betting do you do mostly?

Singles is where its at, though I fritter a fair bit away on the usual 6 team accies, I usually recoup those over the season. I also like stupid first scorer bets when season has been going a while. Over the years it is the big games that the wedge comes out. I still get goosebumps at the even money on Ajax at Ibrox after all these years , though the Gers almost spoiled it. World Cups have also provided, a good, for me, return.
jasonofferman1
Ladbrokes is ok. It seems to take ages for scores to come up.

Fudge
I don't believe anyone bets for any other reason than to make money. 'Enjoyment' might be a part of it but making money is the number 1 priority whether you bet 1p or £100,000 at a time. Some of the advice both in general gambling and tipping terms is beyond woeful. Chances are the 30 seconds of League 2 highlights you watch on a Saturday night does not mean you know more about League 2 football than Ladbrokes. Don't listen to the pish that's spouted on here so at least you're failing under your own steam is the best advice I can give. Mostly fair points apart from the last one, you just need to know who to listen to.
Fudge
Mostly fair points apart from the last one, you just need to know who to listen to. I don't see the point in betting based on other people's opinions/knowledge if you know little about the match yourself.

If people have a good record of making profit from those teams or leagues then I wouldn't mind taking their advice. That blue239874 guy must be worth a few bob and all he does is gamble. Probably wouldn't hurt to do as he does!

Nice little caveat at the end there. I'd seldom bet on something I've little knowledge of, if I can use someone else's knowledge to supplement my own though then it makes sense. It's finding information that's accurate or unbiased that's the challenge on this forum.

fanny paddery
Really? How, who? How by not placing 800 team accumulators, who there are a few!
blue4578
When you become successful and start staking reasonable sums, accumulators aren't an option anyway. I couldn't place an accumulator now even if I wanted to for even 2% of my normal stake.

mid-table
Why do you want to know? If the people themselves want to declare it then fine, I am not going to out people who are going to be bombarded by PMs asking for tips, as usually happens. That generally drives them away from the site.

mid-table
Do you know how much they make roughly? Just interested. It could be any amount between £30k and a couple of million. There are loads of different ways of doing it professionally, from your low margin bots trying to steal a 0.01 trade to the people acting as bookies and backing and laying a variety of everything. Regardless of the method though a lot of the same fundamental requirements apply, you need to know what you're doing and have a good instinct for it as well.
McKee
I've opened a betfair account with the intention of betting on Ayr United not to win. I'm a total gambling noob. I'll need to click the lay button beside Ayr, won't I? well, yeah I figured it out. I'm still a total noob though. I've placed a lay bet against Ayr United. £5 at 1.63. Is that a shite bet, or a good bet. edit: in fact, just ignore me, I'm talking a load of shite. Edited December 13, 2011 by McKee
