The Hero of the Day
Whitesnake is heavy metal surely?
Derek Patterson
Whitesnake is heavy metal surely? I would probably say classic rock. There's some slightly metallic moments on occasion (such as Ready To Rock) but they're generally a bit more bluesy and soulful that I would consider them a heavy metal band.

I'd say classic rock is Chuck Berry and soft rock is Heart. For me Whitesnake are heavy metal.

ThankCrunchie
http://www.manowar.com/ Manowar playing in Birmingham, their only UK date. Rumours of it being a world exclusive too. Either way, it's good to see a band do a date outwith London as an exclusive. And it's good to see Manowar back in the UK!
Dunning1874
Christmas Day when you're in a poisonous mood is definitely a good time to listen to Pantera's Great Southern Trendkill. It's fucking dark. That's a reference to the lyrical themes of the album, not how bright it is outside.
Dunning1874
Agreed, although I have no memory of typing that post. Edited December 25, 2010 by Dunning1874

Can't wait for the new Opeth stuff, and if DevilDriver's lives up to the standard of Pray For Villains that'll be a good listen. I need to listen to more Gojira, up there with the best bands I've seen live but hardly listened to their recorded material.

You have to get their last two albums - From Mars to Sirius & The Ways of all Flesh. Two modern classics IMO. I was like you when it comes to Gojira. I'd heard of them but didn't really pay real attention to them until I saw them live supporting In Flames at the Barrowlands. Their performance that night was brilliant and I wish I'd paid attention to them before then. I really hope they play Glasgow again soon as I'd love to see them do a headlining show. I spent the week before the Christmas holidays at work listening to The Panic Broadcast. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1BGJlQZtZ8 I just love the epic choruses Soilwork manage to write I noticed this article was the most read on the Guardian websites culture section today even though it is three years old - Why metal fans are brainier
