andyh
Electronic voice phenomenon is interesting, spooky and probably a lot of tosh. You could probably say that about the Bible as well. Swampy's post about number stations reminded me of the above doco, which is worth a listen if you haven't. On the same topic, would anyone with a sound background in electronics hazard a guess as to what this is all about? The Lincolnshire Poacher has an interesting accent. It sounds kind of West Country. The English Lady sounds Scottish. Maybe a bit Jean Brodie? Starts at around 3:30.

Miguel Sanchez
This is the first time I've seen this thread so I'm just going to refer to the OP, re: Polybius. Apologies if someone's mentioned the following story in an early page, I only checked the first couple. I remember reading this about urban legends in video games: In 1989, the Soviet Karvina Corporation released a mysterious game called "Killswitch." It totally and irrevocably erased itself from the computer upon completion of the game. Only 5000 copies of the game were issued and gameplay consisted of two characters, a little girl and an invisible demon. Nearly every user completed the game using the girl. Later, the company issued a cryptic message designed to keep the resolution of the story shrouded in mystery, and sent players crazy. Everyone was determined to know what happened when the game was completed with the demon. The following is a paragraph lifted from some forum post: "To find any copy usable today is an almost unfathomably rare occurrence; a still shrink-wrapped copy was sold at an action in 2005 for $733,000 to Yamamoto Ryuichi of Tokyo. It is entirely possible that Yamamoto’s is the last remaining copy of the game. Knowing this, Yamamoto had intended to open his play to all enthusiasts, filming and uploading his progress. However, to date, the only film that has surfaced is a one minute and forty-five second clip of a haggard Yamamoto at his computer, the avatar-choice screen visible over his right shoulder. Yamamoto is crying." It is quarter to three in the morning and I have just read through all of this thread up until this point, including that cannibal child rapist and they two Ukrainian boys that cut out a pregnant woman's foetus as well as all of that thing about the Germans. I've looked up this game, and this story is a fake, yet reading this post and reading the story about it has made me want to be violently sick. Reading it literally made my eyes water and send shivers down my spine. I will not sleep a fucking wink.
mattydfc
Posted this before, but it bears repeating. Innocently playing a game called "Granny's Garden" on a BBC Micro in school (wheeled round on a trolley)... if you got a question, this harridan would suddenly appear. I still have nightmares. Nice deepthroating skills there

Knew the Club Obi Wan. Didn't know the plane reg. Seeing as your avatar is Lando, did you clock that he wears the same gear as Han Solo at the end of Empire Strikes Back? Solo was supposed to have been a drop out Imperial officer trainee, and his trousers at least were meant to be part of the uniform.

greyman
Annora Petrova According to the email supposedly sent from one friend to another, Annora Petrova was an ordinary young girl with hopes of becoming a champion figure skater. One night while she was bored, she Googled her name and found a basic Wikipedia page for herself. She kept checking the page, and soon realized that it was just a little bit ahead of her real life, giving her a glimpse into competition wins – and losses. When she tries to change the page herself to say that she’s won a competition, it turns on her. The page updates itself, spewing tear-inducing hate at her. Finally, it tells her that she becomes “a pathetic little orphan”. Calls to her parents are answered by laughter, and they’re both killed in an accident. Annora heads to Switzerland to try to restart her career, and while everything seems to have sorted itself out, she looks at her Wikipedia page again. This time, it tells her that she dies on the following day, “friendless and alone”. The email ends with a screen-shot of the wiki… and make sure you take a look at the picture before – and after – you click on it
