BinoBalls
Unless the TV deal also has clauses covering volcano insurance and being stabbed to death by a unicorn then I fail to see what is credible about this phantom 'big team' clause. That's how my Dad died.

ReasonableGeezer
Just watched the BBC news. The lone protester has to be the funniest thing i've seen in ages. Anyone else think we should all take in a Raith Rovers game this coming season. A tribute to the only chairman with Baws in Scottish football. The guy is a legend. The Orcs can win what they like today, but the fact remains they are skint. Nae money, nae proper team and Sally is AWOL!

Kyle
That's a load of nonsense unless Green has come out and said he'll not re-apply unless Rangers are, at worst, in the 1st division? What a strange, strange turn of events today
The Troll
Manc reckons I'm "barely human life form" That's the first correct thing you've said on this site, because I am of a superior race Superior to all, God's chosen ones. Sounds like option being presented is first division or nothing Has to be nothing, for the same reasons why they can't be shoehorned into the SPL -
Homer Thompson
Which is surely a prime example, isn't it? Back in 1998 the SPL was formed in a matter of months, and even if it hadn't been the resignation period is 2yrs. Had a TV firm signed a 5yr deal without protection in 1997, they'd potentially have been paying for 4yrs of tier 2 football. There's always talk of OF to EPL, European Superleagues, etc., so why mightn't TV want some protection, against even unlikely possibilities? It's not just about OF ceasing to exist either... TV is paying for ~38 matchdays with ~4 OF derbies. You might want protection against a 30-game format with 2 derbies being introduced without your £££ changing. It's SPL's problem they signed these deals, absolutely, but potentially the alternative (refusal) meant a lower deal. Fair comment. However, the wording of the clauses should have protected the SPL from anything outwith their control. Potential reconstruction is one thing, a club going bust is totally different. If Cockwomble really has left the SPL open to losing as much money as he suggests, and he was directly involved in the contract negotiations, then he hasnt done his job properly.

Who is due to give evidence next, Traynor or the Grim Reaper?
blueone
If SPL clubs wanted to know which way the wind was blowing, they'd only have to do a quick search of the Internet. As it stands Raith, Dunfermline, Morton, Stirling, East Fife, Stranraer, Annan, Peterhead have all openly stated their position as No. There are a few others who are definitely leant towards that too. Eight 'Nos' is enough, which makes me think you have this the wrong way round. I must have read the Clyde statement wrong then.

vikingTON
Which is surely a prime example, isn't it? Had a TV firm signed a 5yr deal without protection in 1997, they'd potentially have been paying for 4yrs of tier 2 football. Well no: because they didn't have a deal for the Scottish First Division. It's quite clear that either they'd accept a transfer of the contracts over to the SPL (overwhelmingly likely) or scratch them with compensation. At no point would having to cover tier 2 football be a realistic outcome, and you know it. Stop talking shite. There's always talk of OF to EPL, European Superleagues, etc., so why mightn't TV want some protection, against even unlikely possibilities? Talk from the same newspapers who brought us news of Rangers' supercasino and retractable pitch. Do you think TV executives aren't capable of carrying out basic risk assessment when making an offer? Phoning around a few clubs, UEFA, anyone with credibility in the game, who knew that these pipe-dreams are never going to get off the ground? As i said, they might as well have put volcano insurance in the document, such is the ridiculous nature of this 'risk'. Baxter Parp
Jim Spence @bbcjimspenceUp to 6 SPL clubs at risk according to Stewart Regan. AyrshireTon
The problem here is that Doncaster and Reagan are speaking to a room full of guys , many of whom couldn't give two fucks about any TV deal as they will never see any benefit themselves.
BinoBalls
Jim Spence @bbcjimspenceUp to 6 SPL clubs at risk according to Stewart Regan. Sounds like option being presented is first division or nothing It was 5 clubs the other day, but I see we're up to 6 now. It'll be 7 by the time the SPL vote comes round tomorrow. Lies lies and more lies. Thing is, if 5 clubs do go bust, then they could simply get re-admitted to SFL1. Everyone's a winner. Seems to be the way things are done. BELFASTSAINTEE
Stuart Milne @SGMilneSo the SFA won't allow Newco Rangers into the SPL even if the clubs did a 180 on it? Shuggie_Murray7
Why is it unacceptable for them to be in the SPL, yet it is completely acceptable to have them in the 1st?
