"Some of these guys are good at saying what the fans want to hear. McCoist's a master at that. Crap manager, but good at the media."

"He's been saved by this process. Disorganised guy. Desk in a total mess with papers from six months ago. He wouldn't have been there if it weren't for the admin process." Craigy Whyte.

Ooft  . Where's the dignity?

He wants to see some of the desks in my office if he thinks having papers that are six months old = total mess.

I don't know, supporting Celtic must be terrible thing, knowing that you've got the rest of your life as a Celtic fan ahead of you. Wearing cheap trackies, monobrows and a life spent in green and grey drinking dens.

Kids just say no and support Rangers.

Are these guys as bad as you say? I know nothing of them but I did witness ( from a distance ) some Renfrew taxis being set about with baseball bats a couple of years ago!

You're turning into a bit of a Magee with a tall tale for every occasion.

Well said HT - there's 40 other options that :

a. Save on travel costs, and most likely admission money, and

b. don't involve hanging around with bigoted halfwits covered in quasi-political tattoos, dressed in five-year-old away tops.

Oh, and Bennett, gaunnae condemn Ally there? I thought you were right against that sort of mud-slinging, and all..

The tub of lard speaks.....

Bernie Madoff and The Rangers

The warning signs were all there but nobody asked the right questions.

Well, not quite, some did ask but most were not for listening.

And so it was with both Craig Whyte and Bernie Madoff.

Madoffs criminality was of an exponentially greater scale than Whyte - $65 billion in a Ponzi scheme - but his lack of principles was the same.

I recently read two books on the crimes of Bernie Madoff - both of them offer interesting insights into the psychology of the man, his victims, those who profited by doing his bidding and those who tried to blow the whistle.

It will forever be a stain on our club and on our support that collectively we didnt stop Craig Whyte taking over the club, that we failed collectively to heed the warning signs and that we fumbled the opportunity to control the club ourselves. But those are side matters to the point of this article.

We can blame others, we can blame ourselves - but ultimately being taken for mugs is something that happens to us all at one time or another - this just happens to be a spectacular example.

In Diane Henriques excellent book Bernie Madoff, The Wizard Of Lies she offers the opinion that Any number of crimes may be committed by a seedy-looking, shifty-eyed, inarticulate grifter in a cheap suit and scuffed shoes, but a Ponzi scheme is never going to be one of them. Yet almost every Madoff victim, including the SEC, trusted him precisely because he seemed so trustworthy.

Our shame is that we got done over by Craig Whyte and he just never looked like a Rangers chairman - a seedy-looking, shifty-eyed, inarticulate grifter in a cheap suit.

Yet this charlatan made it past the massed ranks of Sir David Murrays empire, the bank, rows of lawyers and the fit and proper person test at the SFA (stop sniggering at the back) - so the ordinary man in the street had little beyond a gut feeling with which to counter the wave of enthusiasm which greeted him.

Several times Bernie Madoff lied to the Securities and Exchange COmmission and fully expected the FBI to knock on his door in the morning - but the knock never came. The investigators didnt ask the right questions and they didnt check the wrong answers. Craig Whyte almost got away with it - if we had gotten into the Champions League group stages or if the Tax Tribunal had ruled earlier I reckon he could have pulled it off.

Con man is a short hand for confidence man - thats how frauds work - they appear more clever, more experienced, more confident, more in control - you ignore unpleasant realities because the consequences are too awful to imagine. People admire the life of luxury, his success, are flattered when he talks to you, tell yourself how respected they are, are envious of the money he makes but console yourself that sophisticated people speak highly of him. Thats how they do it. So dont blame yourself.

Additionally, while some of us thought Whytes CV was a little peculiar - we lacked the hard evidence of criminality. The gap in his CV, his sojourn in Monte Carlo, etc, did, with hindsight, point to problems but with no knowledge of his disbarment as director you could be forgiven for assuming he made his money offshore playing the markets. Naive perhaps but to believe that someone could buy Rangers with no funds of his own to back it up was beyond our imagining.

One of Madoffs victims spoke about the advantage criminals have over the rest of us - their imagination. Elie Wiesel is an Auschwitz survivor who lost $15million and most of the funds of his memorial foundation to Madoff. Wiesel said the victims of the Nazis and of Madoff could not be expected to comprehend the criminals ability to imagine the crimes they would commit because they are able to think of crimes that are simply too grotesque for the victims ever to comprehend.

After Whyte departed the building the club saw a number of bidders - did we ever subject many of them to the sort of due diligence we should have? Did we ask the right questions?

Are we, as a support, asking the right questions now?

don't worry wee man, he cannae hurt you anymore.

I am just about to report you for your last few posts but i thought i would explain here why. I am all for discussing the cover up of child sex abuse at certain boys clubs and tbh wherever it happens...Regardless of what religion the abuser are or what team they happen to support. These people prey on the vulnerable and unless we are open to discussion about it they will never be reported..The enquiry after Saville was exposed surely proves this.

You are not interested in the children...you couldn't care less what hurt these people have gone through..It is all about cheap point scoring against 'Them'. You know what daft arse...people like you sicken me to the pit of my stomach. As long as there are people like you we will never learn from past mistakes!!

well said Sir!

There are a few topics which even in fevered and polarised discussion forum like BRALT should invite scorn from all posters.

The Celtic Boys Club abuse is one of several which are exclusively used for point scoring by knuckle draggers.

Could we not all adopt a sort of BRALT based Godwin's Law, where the first mention of any of the agreed topics means the poster has lost any arguement he / she was trying to make.

Irish Terrorism, the Ibrox Disaster spring to mind as topics that never further any debate...

Every man and their dog know that most taxi firms are owned by Gangsters or at least wannabe gangsters. Money for nothing and lets be brutally honest it is very easy not to be entirely honest when declaring your earnings. Much of the money they are taking in is tax free....Yeh i know there is a tremendous opening for somebody to crack jokes about The Rangers.

They can get near the club as they have the money. They will may appear legitimate businessmen now they have made their fortune but they will never be able to leave the gangster lifestyle behind. If they get soft then somebody will just move in and take their business. I am not sure people appreciate the kind of money these chancers make...Stevie Malcolm just built the most expensive new build house in Scotland at £9 million. Not bad for a fat twat  from Feegie

I could go into much much more detail if you are that interested but tbh i don't feel that comfortable doing it so publicly.

As far the support. When the news first broke i went on to Follow Follow where their 'spin doctors' had already started their work. Some telling of how wonderful the brothers are and how they are big time 'Bears'...Others warning people that they should be careful what they say but the funniest of the lot were the idiots saying that on the bright side we might get some positive press now because if they dont Sandy will just send the lads round to the reporters door.

I can understand all too well the desperation to get behind the scenes sorted and get some stability there. You would think after Green and Whyte we would be happy to get anybody in but , imho, we have sunk to an all time low with this appointment. I just cannot believe it has been allowed to happen but we are where we are. I said in the heat of the moment i wouldn't go back if the brothers were awarded a place on the board. TBH i will renew as i am a Rangers supporter...Then...Now and hopefully Forever but i will certainly not be hiding my feelings regarding these characters

Nicely said fella. Commiserations on this 'development'... I fear for your money and those like you. But I sympathise completely on your desire to watch 'your team'. What a conundrum.
