stemjsim
Interesting. I read that story (along with the rest of The Books of Blood) years ago and thought it was one of the best but had a crap ending. Just checked it out on imdb and looks like the film might be the same though it's a bit different. Clive Barker's a little too obsessed with monsters over general creepiness for my liking. Aye the ending is kind of wierd and yes Barker is slightly obsessed with monsters, but it could be cool if it can be linked in to other movies ala Cthulu mythos and othere things.

SaltyTON
Jaws (1975) After being to Universal Studio when I was a kid and being distinctly unimpressed with the fakeness of Jaws, I never ever got around to seeing it. After watching it there I was bored as hell, but nearly pissed myself laughing whenn I saw the shark eat the boat at the end, that has to be the least real thing ever, in fact if had been Oscar the Grouch this would have been better. If folk were shitting themselves watching this back in 1975, they must have fucking died when the Moomins came along four years later!!! For the giant sock puppet giving me a laugh - 5/10
The_Num
Oldboy (2003) Korean mystery thriller about a man who is suddenly released after 15 years of captivity, not knowing who, or why, but determined to find out. First Korean film I've seen but seemed to have a lot of Hollywood and Jpanese elements to it. Whatever. Fantastic - 9/10

For the giant sock puppet giving me a laugh - 5/10 Got to disagree with you there. Great storytelling, superb cast and excellent characters mean that a shark which even looked rubber back in the seventies can't detract from a classic. I still find it's a film that, if it's on when I turn on the TV, I will watch from whatever point it's at to the end. A remake is bound to get financed at some point and what will they do - let's make a huge scary CGI shark and forget about everything else. It will be shit. These guys always do pretty good parodies and the Jaws one sums it up nicely http://www.angryalien.com/0804/jawsbunnies.asp

KnightswoodBear
Against all my better judgement Righteous Kill Truly appaling movie, that even two of my favourite actors couldn't save. De Niro just about convinces as a homicide cop that's a bawhair away from retirement, but Pacino is laughable. The scenes of the two of them working out in the gym had my mate and I in stiches. The plot is muddled and the "twist" is blatantly obvious right from the start. And the lovely Carla Gugino is sadly wasted in a silly role as a forensic scientist who's into rough sex. The rough sex is with De Niro, so that should spoil any thoughts you're having just now. Dreadful, dreadful movie 2/10 Edited October 10, 2008 by KnightswoodBear
SaltyTON
BloodRayne (2005) I know Bollywood gets torn apart by the critics but thought I would watch it anyway as I found House of the Dead to be fun, if nothing Oscar winning! This however was pretty awful, the fucking weird cast of Billy Zane, Meat Loaf, Udo Kier, Michelle Rodriguez, Michael "the white Danny 'I take any job going' Trejo" Madsen and Sir Ben Kingsley. I mean what the f**k, who gave Boll a $25 million budget??? Questions must be asked. I feel I should be given £25 million if that guy gets given money despite everything he does flopping or going straight to video!!! It was basically an excuse for a lot of blood, and for Meat Loaf to appear in the most random cameo since I saw Ron Jeremy as a Bible salesman in a shit horror movie! 3/10 Edited October 10, 2008 by SaltyTON

Half A Person
Dear Frankie - 7/10 Very decent. Sentimental, but just short of cloying. There are a few memorable, phenomenally acted scenes and it's well worth a viewing if you fancy something different from the usual formulaic action movies..... which takes me to the last film I watched, Snakes On A Plane (5/10). Actually, I enjoyed it, but I felt a bit bad afterwards like you do after knocking one out to Anna Nicole Smith. In a curious way, it's not quite bad enough to become the cult classic it clearly aims to be. It's actually quite a likeable, competent action movie like Con Air or something. It is pretty shit obviously, but as much as I'd like to pretend I'd rather be watching The Three Colours Trilogy, I can appreciate this for what it was: a dumb-ass popcorn movie which never quite hits the kitsch depths of cult crapness.
Ebanda's Handyman Services
Anyone seen Hairspray and enjoyed it? Me neither. The girl said 7/10 though.
SaltyTON
Just watched Braveheart in my flat with two Lithuanians and two Germans, watching it for the first time in English. Usual mark of 9/10, as much as I love it I can't give a film that makes Pearl Harbor or World Trade Center seem historically accurate full marks.
SaltyTON
Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (1984) This was just fucking terrible, and the fact they lied and made another seven Jason films (plus a remake next year) makes this all the worse! No logic or plot, just killing and tits, and the only points this will get is for those things as it was extremely boring. Worst one that I've seen (first four, Jason Goes to Hell, Jason X and Freddy vs Jason) 3/10 EDIT: Forgot to mention that creepy wee b*****d from the Lost Boys and the Goonies didn't die, that would have gotten an extra mark from me. Has anyone seen the Lost Boys sequel that went straight to DVD last month??? Might rent that at some point, just so I can pan it! Cj20
Recount. (2008) Actually one of the best films I've seen this year, surprisingly. Basically it was about the US Election in 2000, looking at behind the scenes in the Democrats and Republicans after what happened in the State of Florida, and all the calls for recounts, legal battles etc. Kevin Spacey and Tom Wilkinson were excellent as leaders of the Democratic and Republican legal teams respectively and it really had me on the edge of my seat - obviously I knew the result, but I was only 13 when this election took place so I never really knew much about it. Tremendous drama and suspense. Well worth a watch..probably enjoy it better if you're into politics though. 7.5/10
Wishaykillie
Even Money (2006) About gambling and how all the characters are connected. Too many characters in the one movie and nobody really stands out. It's a good story line and idea, but it just seems to trip over it's self all the time. Could have been much much better. 7.5/10
