Walking Down The Halbeath Road

Recommended Posts

I can't believe that there is so much despondency on here. We've lost tight games with the best teams this league has to offer, without being embarrassed. While not picking up many points, we're still above the bottom two. Okay, just. This quarter we now have the stronger sides at home. A win against Hibs may just be the turning point this season?

I have to disagree with anyone slating Ryan, his confidence is not what it was at the beginning of last season. Agreed, he's pulled out of 50/50s, but can't help thinking his injury last season was more than just a physical one. He needs support from the terraces, not the flak he's been getting of late.

Survival in the Championship is the key this season and we're only 9 games in. If we were detached at the foot then there may be cause for panic, but not yet. Keep the faith. Go a goal behind on Saturday, keep singing, do not falter. This team is energised from what comes from the stands, don't let it be negative.

Could play Geggan in a defensive midfield role and Higginbotham sitting off Clark and El Alagui? Recipe for disaster tbh.

What about the boy Duthie? Is he not a defensive midfielder? McCabe is just a total charlatan. Someone else deserves a shot.

We get it regarding Williamson. You don't have to keep mentioning it in every post.

Incidentally how did Hibs get on against him at Easter Road?

Hibs play quite narrow so Williamson was fine, he had a large part to play in our goal though.

Worst performance in the second half since JJ or st mirren away last year. No ideas, no fight and no tactics.

Will be interesting if AJ will trot out the same lines again.

We need to cut out the mistakes, we are miles better than that.

Fix it!

Been hearing that for about 2/3 months now, the second part of your statement does not appear to be true.

Yep, several players just out of their depth.

A lack of guts, mettle and fight, seems the midfield is the focal point of most of the issues tbh, Geggan needs to playing a much more basic role like he was last season, McCabe needs to find another profession and we need Jo back at full tilt. Think our best team at the moment, as much as it pains me to agree with D.A.F.C. is

Murdoch

Williamson Ashcroft Martin Talbot

Geggan

Paton                      Cardle

Higgy

Farid Clark

We'd get torn apart, our biggest problem this year has been the total lack of protection offered to our defence.

Murdoch

Martin Ashcroft BRE Talbot
----------Wedderburn-Geggan
-------------------- McCabe
McMullan-------------------Cardle
--------------------Farid

Issue is AJ has fucked up recruitment big time, where exactly does Higginbothom fit in? He's not a winger, is he meant to be played behind the striker, if so why have we spent so much on Reilly, Farid and Clarke? Reilly in particular is just a massive drain in resources.

He's just bought players without any real thought as to how to fit them into a system, we have so many wingers, Cardle, Paton, McMullan as well as Higginbothom being played as one, yet we one one right back, one left back and two competent centre backs.

Our squad ballance is definitely well out.

BRE was reasonably solid today, not 100% on our strongest back 4 but it's basically a question of where Martin plays. If mcmillan was to join and suddenly be the player he was pre - ban that would sort that out, lots of ifs there tho. Geggan and wederburn would be a reasonable shield in front of the defence, a few options who would play in front but higginbotham, herron, mcmillan, hopkirk and possibly even moff could all play centrally with cardle and Paton out wide. Farid up top. Seems no desire from AJ to deviate from 4-4-2 tho. Also 1 injury and we would have to reshuffle. Still at least the penalty curse seems to have been broken.

Said that at the time about Higginbotham @Grant228, and when he was signed along with Wedderburn I assumed we were moving to a 4-2-3-1 or something where he could play in a free role with big Nat and Geggan as the shield in front of the back 4. The fact that we didn't go for that sort of system today when Hibs were playing 3-5-2 and had acres of space in the middle, or that AJ didn't change things in a proactive rather than reactive way is just baffling.

We can try any formation you like but the players need to show a bit of guts. I usually laugh at fans that make this argument but our current team seem almost cowardly when they concede a goal. The heads go down and there's no hunger to fight back. It's all a bit pathetic.

I don't know if that's AJ's fault but he needs to address it very quickly. It's hard to justify paying decent money to support a group of players who don't seem to capable of the challenge in front of them.
