Walking Down The Halbeath Road

Recommended Posts

Only the top people at the club will know if we were interested, but I see Motherwell are about to confirm the signing of Oli Shaw from Barnsley. He was one we were apparently after early in the window despite featuring a bit for Barnsley. I suppose it shows what we’re up against (if we were interested).

Well todays the day the widow “slams shut” it doesn’t waft, creak, or click shut, it slams for some reason

The management at the club know what we need to bolster our squad, and if we are to get full contract played in it’ll have to be today.
Personally I’m not overly concerned about it as our manager has done well in the loan market in the past, but I’d rather we got our own boys in and developed them instead of doing it for other clubs.
here’s hoping we get some good news about signings today to help lift our spirits after the shite result at the weekend.

The window isn't really relevant at this level. Very few clubs can afford fees and most clubs don't have any assets worth selling. If clubs are going to bring anyone in then they're a free transfer or loans which aren't affected.

It might not be relevant to clubs at our level, but you do tend to see clubs still trying to do business on the day of the window closing. Clubs higher up the chain get their business done and it makes their players become available for loan/free etc.

Fair point. I’m just hoping against hope for one of the guys that are supposedly training with us to sign, as I think any of them would be a good addition

It affects loans from England though? They are an ever increasing market for championship clubs.

It is, but it isn’t. The odd player will be released just before the deadline, which makes them eligible to sign for clubs in September. Other than that, after the deadline closes it’s only domestic loans or free agents. I’d imagine free agents will be keen to get a club sorted asap.

As the transfer deadline approaches, top flight clubs are more certain of who isn’t going to be involved and is therefore available for loan/can be released ahead of the deadline. As noted above, any non-domestic loans also need to be confirmed prior to this week’s deadline.

Based on no evidence (because I can’t be bothered doing research on it), I think there tend to be quite a few free agent signings announced on deadline day/the day after.

Big month coming up.

September sees three tricky away games in the league and just one home game (although this is flipped in October). Also have another away trip to Tannadice in September in the Challenge Cup.

September will surely see a couple of loan signings too.
