The Golden God
For what is not technically a combat sport the amount of NFL players with brain injuries and mental health problems is horrendous. Not saying that’s what has caused whatever is going on with Sherman but it seems like every week a player is in the need for something that’s not football related, they really really need to do something about it.
Boo Khaki
I think brain health is obviously an enormous factor, but I don't think you can discount the fact that a lot of these guys grew up in impoverished and crime-ridden neighbourhoods. You can play in the NFL for 10 years and make all the money you like, but I doubt that very rarely results in them totally extricating themselves from that culture and the associated characters that go along with it. Look at the number of NFL players who get into trouble in bars, strip-joints, get involved in drug running, gambling etc. It's acknowledged that young men who are immersed in criminality and risky behaviours from a young age often struggle to break the cycle. I honestly don't believe that playing in the NFL and making a few bob would alter that significantly. The Hernandez doc underscores what has always been apparent with NFL players. They might move State to play college ball, end up on the opposite coast playing pro ball, but some remnant of the entourage, the hangers-on, the parasites, the unsavoury past, always seems to stick and end up following them. It's also a fact that children who witness and experience violence in the home are far more likely to grow up and become victims and perpetrators of violence themselves as an adult, so I think a lot of what you see with NFL players getting into trouble is just reflective of the same things you see in wider society. It's only really big news because they are an NFL persona. What they might have done exactly isn't really anything unusual for any other random person with a similar background. Goes without saying though that yes, the NFL really should be doing a lot more about investigating CTE and so on. NFLPA is obviously keen, but I would think the NFL probably perceives itself as being in a bit of a turkeys and christmas scenario. ICTChris
Hadn’t heard about Sherman, sad stuff. On the subject of brain in jury I read this article about Mike Webster and his training by his son. It’s awesome, a load of NFL stars training with home made equipment in the basement of a bar. The last section deals with Webster at the end, very sad. https://startingstrength.com/article/reflections_in_iron_mike_websters_training_methods

Fuctifano
On 19/06/2021 at 00:26, Fuctifano said: Cole Beasley - as you might think by looking at him- has said he's not going to get vaccinated He's at it again but has also inadvertently revealed a team-mate (who was vaccinated so he can make a point) tested positive when the team hasn't announced it. Can see him getting told to bin his social media shortly, one thing McDermott and Beane do is run a pretty leak-free ship.

Brummie Clyde
Any team that can't fulfil a fixture due to a COVID outbreak due to non-vaccinated players, will forfeit the match and have to pay fines. The non-vaccinated players will also have some of their salaries docked. No messing around there.
