I think the plot of the episode was that after, getting framed for murder as part of a reality TV show, Homer and the rest of them all go on the run. When the family eventually get caught the presenters of the TV show finally reveal that it was a hoax and Homer (who has been clueless the whole episode) shouts "I KNEW IT". He answers the door too even though they twice told him "Hired goons" ???? The faces of Burns and Smithers as grandpa Simpson waffles on with his story that goes nowhere is the highlight for me. That's one of those scenes that could cheer me up anytime. The singing Parts from Lisa are pretty good too.
