Granny Danger
Gauld and Souttar have both been at United for over eight years. Dow came to United when he was 12. Armstrong was released by ICT when they dismantled their youth set-up after getting relegated and before he had ever featured in a first team squad. I've never heard anyone suggest that Robertson or Connolly were products of the United youth set-up although neither have ever played for a professional club previously. Is that too fine a distinction? Depends if you think that someone can have a proprietorial interest without actually paying you. In short, you're talking nonsense. United's youth set up and signing policy is no different than any other. Clubs sign players at 8/10/12/14/16/18/20 etc and try to develop every single one of them into first team players. The acid test is whether they actually play and contribute to the first team, not whether they previously played for Brechin Boys Club when they were 9 years old. Points well made. Of course you could have saved yourself the effort and just told Crilly he was talking shite.

rustyarabnuts
I think we need to sign another keeper in the summer, Rado ,to me, has become too complacent and needs a decent keeper to challenge him for his place in the team, don't get me wrong he is a fantastic keeper but just think he needs a wee bit of a challenge that I don't think he's getting from McCallum atm
peeeel
Dundee United today announced that David McGrory has been appointed to the Board as a non executive Director. David McGrory is a partner in the corporate team of leading UK commercial law firm Maclay Murray & Spens LLP and has built up a great deal of experience in corporate governance and corporate finance matters. He assisted the Club in this capacity during the recent financial restructuring exercise. David has been a lifelong supporter of Dundee United having been introduced to Tannadice by his grandfather in the 1980s. Chairman Stephen Thompson said, "This appointment will further strengthen the Board, particularly in the areas of specialism in which David operates on a day to day basis. His business and professional experience will be of great benefit to the Club and, indeed, has already been used to good effect. His appointment ensures that the Board has a wide range of specialist and complementary skills and is well equipped to deal with the post financial restructuring environment." McCallum looked excellent in pre-season. Wouldn't have a problem with him playing in the league if Rado was out injured. Also think that's a bit harsh on Rado as well, he's kept us in games several times this season.
stumigoo
I believe in Rado! He has had a couple more high profile errors this season but no more than any other keeper in the league. I sill find it astonishing just how bad his kicking is though, it is painful. He has (I think) been told to play the ball from the back where possible which has meant a few scary moments as he tries to play a short ball to the fullbacks, but I would be more than happy for him to be our number one for a few seasons yet. ArabFC
Agreed. Rado is a top class (by SPFL standards) keeper and I'd be delighted to see him in goal for the next few seasons. Wasting wages on a keeper that will still be a second choice isn't a priority.
Desert Nomad
Just wish Rado would sort his distribution out. Fine when he can bowl it out quickly to a defender, but kicking is atrocious.
peeeel
Agree with the previous sentiment's. I thought Rado was poor in his first season and I made this opinion know. Most arabs on here were happy to lay the blame with our bombscare defence. He has however been a far more reliable keeper at this level. Every keeper has his moments, you just need to look at the errors made by keepers at Champions league and International level to see it only takes a millisecond to make a mistake that could cost a goal. I think we should plough on next season with Rado and take it from there.

Waffelz
Apparently Harry Souttar is 6ft 5. Knew he looked tall, but christ. Get him in the first team!!! In all seriousness though, I can see him getting game time at 16 just like John. Already looks good and unlike John, has a better presence about him. Moves well for someone that tall. The Souttar brothers in defence in the next few years would be drool-worthy stuff.
stumigoo
I didn't see this yesterday in The Courier but Stuart Armstrong is studying for a law degree through the Open University - "Armstrong favours law course over golf course." Seeing him interviewed I've thought a few times "he doesn't sound like a fucking numpty" which is a rare thing in the footballing world. He says that lots of players are happy with all the "free time" they get but at least he has the planning to see that football will only give him a career until about 33/34 and then you still have potentially 30 years left of work in you. I wonder if he gets ripped for it in the dressing room?

Desert Nomad
What do Arabs think of POTY candidates? Robertson is a stick-on for YPOTY, I'd probably give him the full award as well, astonishingly consistent.

The full award could potentially be nicked off him if Ciftci scores 4 or 5 goals to nick us a top 3 spot though.
