The East Fife Thread

Recommended Posts

Nice wee ground, tonight was a typical pre-season affair on a wet Tuesday evening. Mutch, Duggan, Willis (playing off the strikers at times) and Reilly (on wide right) were the stand outs but in my eyes Kane plays better at right back than in centre midfield.

I feel we miss do miss Page at centre back his solidness and the number 5 looked good minus the slip in second half that he got away with it before been replaced by player/manager and we're missing bit creative from Wilkie and Smith I hope to see them back soon.

Sparky was do much running about I noticed from left back wearing number 3 I guess he's our corner kick specialist since we don't have Nicki Paterson around.

As for the forwards I feel we do need bring in one to add to our attackers.

Where are our youth players? When was the last time we actually produced a decent young player?

Don't think we even have a youth set up anymore. Not sure what the costs are in running it but it won't be cheap. Never know, might be something in the pipeline that can be discussed at the meeting tonight. Anyone going, please fire on here what's discussed as it doesn't look like there'll be anyone available to take the minutes.

Very few part time teams regularly produce first team players through youth systems these days. Might be because the top sides hoover up more of the available talent at a young age and that eventually trickles down. Being hard-nosed about it, clubs like East Fife are probably better looking for good young players released from Premier sides after coming though the youths (like Duggan) or guys playing non-league with potential (like Fash).

The players were training on the pitch tonight which ,from afar, looked like the real thing. They will however continue to use the Riccarton facilities for the forseeable future. This will allow the club to continue to attract players from the west.

The pitch itself is fully laid with only the far side ,adjoining the wall, where the red aggregate was,yet to be laid.

There will be 6 pitches available. 3- 55 x 33 metres ,and 3- 33 x 25 metres. Hire rates are £19.80 for under 17,and  £30 for adults -Block booking ie 9 week periods,

Single bookings are £24 for under17. and £35 for adults. All rates include VAT

The 3 G pitch has a normal life span of 8 years although the aim is to set up a sinking fund and replace after 6 years.Projected cost , based on current cost, is £ 175000.

Sports Labs who are managing the project will be undertaking various tests on the pitch tomorrow to ensure that the pitch meets whatever the playing criteria are.

EF will receive a monthly rent for renting the area within the perimeter wall.EF will also achieve annual savings of £25000.

There are currently no showers in the 2 portakabins.Fifers For The Community have approached a national sponsor with a view to upgrading these facilities.

The only permanent pitch markings will be for the full pitch.

Local clubs have been offerred a free test of the facilities in the first week in August.Community use should commence middle to end of August.

Local clubs and SPFL clubs  have shown an interest in using the facilities although it will need shower facilities before clubs can hold competitive games.

Schools have been approached for them to use the facilities during the day.

It would have been nice to have a permanent structure behind one goal, to accommodate a shower block and an office to run the facilities.. and a bit of covered terracing in front of it. Mebbe one day!

Pretty fair summary of the proceedings. I agree that we knocked the ball around well before the break but we were a little disjointed in the second-half...

This what raith will be doing next season. Do you think it is cost effective ??. The issue of training in methil,no disrespect is that it's a pain in the arse to get to for anyone any further than the outskirts of fife. It may in the future put off a catchment of players on offer.

Pre season friendly results should be treated with some caution but a 4 -1 defeat to second division Stirling following a loss to Spartans is a cause for concern.Frankly the squad is weak and requires some experienced signings.Darren Young really needs to get a move on or we are facing a very difficult season.
