Education required again from you tech-speak geeks please!

What's the 'OP' that Marshmallo spoke of?

Also -

What's 'ETA' and 'IIRC' stand for, that frequently get used on here?

OP = original post, ie first post in the topic

ETA = edited to add (or estimated time of arrival)

IIRC = if I recall correctly

OP stands for original poster or the first poster. Could also mean first post.

ETA on here means edited to add.

IIRC means if I recall correctly.

Be a cook in the kitchen and a whore in the bedroom. Just remember that girls and you can't go wrong. You might even lumber xbl.

21. PerthshireBell

Post count: 821 (under his wingsoverperthshire account)

Reputation: 69 (under his wingsoverperthshire account)

What you said: “a P&B icon. It's a good thing he's allowed to stay on the forum, he's an interesting fellow to say the least.”

“Can be funny”

Did he get any first places?: No

The poll: PerthshireBell received eight votes, which is joint highest outwith the top fourteen. He is also the poster who finished highest without gaining any top three nominations. He had votes in every other position though – one fourth, one fifth, one sixth, one seventh, one eighth, two ninths and a tenth.

The poster: The man now known as wingsoverperthshire just misses out on a place in the top twenty. He’s from Perthshire, he has a full driving license and his wife got 50%. He’s been a massive part of this site for years and had more accounts registered than a city centre branch of Lloyds TSB.

PerthshireBell first joined this site a few years back, and he made an instant impression due to his huge posting volume and often erratic opinions. At this time he was much more active in the football sections than he is currently, and he used to wind people up something awful in Misc Football in particular. One thing I can remember is that he rated (rates?) Graeme Dorrans very, very highly, and he’d repeat this to a ridiculous extent. He also had a major hard on for Sandy Lyle which was pretty funny and seemed to wind a lot of people up. I can’t remember why his original account was banned, but to be honest I thought he was more quantity than quality back in those days. He was a big fan of Partridge though which I enjoyed.

Being banned seemed to make PB a better poster though. In an effort to make peace with keithgy he offered to meet him for an early bird set menu meal at The Wheelhouse in Falkirk. I’ve had this particular menu before and I’d say it’s of a decent standard without being spectacular. Keith never took him up on this offer, however. From there PB took to registering accounts repeatedly until he was sussed out and banned. With each account I seemed to find him funnier and funnier. He seemed to hone his style of posting as time went on, moving away from the football forums and becoming more active in General Nonsense. His character/gimmick was strengthened over the months and years and with each new username.

A large part of the rise of PB was his chemistry with his nephew Eric (also known as Lexi Collector). The pairs’ interactions were gold, and appeared to be hugely influenced by Alan Partridge. I personally think that when on form the two of them have had the best consistent rapport in the history of this website. That’s my personal opinion though so others may disagree. I particularly remember one thread where PB posted about selling his house, which inspired a lot of rage from a large cross section of PnB. This was a turning point in my opinion towards him as a poster – his quality became abundantly clear to me here and I had my eyes opened to the fantastic writer he is.

A prime example of the two providing entertainment was in the topic which was started by the current username “wingsoverperthshire”. Here, PB opened his heart and wrote an incredibly moving post to ask to be allowed to stay on the website. Eric revealed more intimate detail and it became clear that it was hugely important. Keithgy, the man who had previously shown no interest in a set menu dinner at the moderately priced and centrally located Wheelhouse, found it in his heart to allow WoP to remain.

It’s been a glorious decision. In my opinion this is easily the best incarnation of PB there has been. The gimmick is down to a tee now, and in my opinion it is the best gimmick in the history of this website. His humour is superb and there are few people better at putting posts together on this website. Little things such as repeatedly mentioning that StandFree03 enjoys jigsaws always make me laugh. He’s only missed out on it by one place but I think it’s a travesty that he’s not in the top twenty.

I was going to say this could be a bit of a divider but I’m not sure it will be any more. It’s generally accepted now that he’s a genius surely?

When PB isn't being insane, he's a really good poster. However, as soon as I see him mention "Onionist" or start talking about the mods, I like to pretend that I've never heard of him. I'm glad he's calmed down and is making a good contribution to the forum, and I was even a little worried for him the other night when Div was throwing out unjustified bans on a whim. Got to be a shout for most improved poster in the last couple of years?

He's harmless and good fun. A few years ago, I ended up joining PB's 'Alan Partridge' forum, which was extremely surreal but amusing at the same time! It's a shame that site no longer exists, as it would have been interesting to see a few of the discussions once again...

It's great to see him back on P&B, and I would have probably included him in my own top ten. Well deserved place in the Top 50!
