The Chinese submarine mission is a good one. I had to replay it due to being unable to keep my anti communist rage in check initially.

There is a wiki site with a full list of missions that I went through when i was looking to mop up, but if you've not finished the main quest it might be a bit spoilery.

Finally entered the Institute, the mission to actually get there stumped me for far, far longer than it shouldve.

Still not overly convinced theyre the bad guys despite the warning signs in the game so far...

Closest I've seen to bad guys out of the main factions are the BoS tbh.

After saying I was a bit bored with the game, I've gone the whole other direction and started a new save without finishing the previous one. Hoping that I can learn from any mistakes I'd made building my character previously, and play through with a more sensible eye.

Building the big machine to get you there? Took me ages to figure out

I just assumed too! Guess I was wrong though. I generally carry around my cooked food and use it instead of stimpacks. I have hundreds of stimpacks

I actually had so much it was really affecting how much other equipment I could carry so I thought storing it would be great and pick it up later, obviously not. I sont really rate stimpacks cause they don't really boost HP that much. They're only good if you get a crippling injury. 200+ that just don't get used.

I was raging with it. Took me forever and the solution is so bloody simple.

I have a bad feeling i may have made a boo boo.

I stumbled across ludwiski or someone like that in a dodgy meat factory, went to bottom got the mystery meat quest and completed it.

Basically at the end i had the option to take all the meat "steal" as there was no one around i took all 40 odd pots.

Today i did another quest the water plant one and there was one of those air plane machines fighting the mutants and also me.

Have i gone and made enemies with someone by stealing the meat ?

I'm getting to that stage too. I've just started storing a bunch now! In addition to my 250+ stimpacks, I've got just short of 200 bottles of purified water.

Not done that quest but it's easy enough to accidentally shoot one of you 'allies'. I've done it thinking a synth was a raider and next thing you know there's half a dozen on you.

Done this quest where I had to escort a beer brewing robot back to goodneighbor killing off gunners, super mutants and raiders. It then decided to have a pop at a BoS vertibird so I ended up having to fight that. Pain in the arse.

I've got a terrible habit of arriving at battles between different sets of enemies, only to wipe out the (currently friendly) BoS as it looks like they're raiders in power armour from a distance. Oops.

I don't think we'll be on the same side by the end of the game, so I'm not feeling too bad about it.

Build shops at all of your settlements, people! All you need to do is assign a settler to man each one, and bottlecaps are deposited in the workbench every day (your share of their takings). Last time I played, I was travelling between settlements picking up 800 caps at each :thumsup2

If you're struggling for space, I tend to build a two-storey flophouse at each settlement, with beds on the bottom floor and a 'mall' on the top with all the stores. Stick a missile turret at each corner of the roof and any invaders are destroyed within seconds. Missile turrets are lethal and the parts are pretty easy to find, unlike laser turrets, which need things like fibre-optics.

I've built a few at sanctuary and especially the weapons one seems to be filled with a lot of weapons that's I've stored in the workshop. I'm worried that they start selling off all my gear especially my fatmen and other high powered weapons. And do I just go to my workshop to collect the caps aye?

How do you build two storey houses? I built my own metal one but can't figure out how to get one on top or even get access to it once it's there. Also, I've put a bed in it and settlers claimed it. Can I assign my own bed?

Instead of a roof, build flooring on top of your walls, and leave an empty square to put a ladder on. Then you can just build walls onto the second storey like you did with the first. There's a limit on how high you can go, but anything behind three or four floors is probably overkill anyway, unless you're going to build a floor for each settler. And you can stick 20 beds on the floor outside and they're all just as happy, so f**k 'em :P

I don't think the stores sell your workshop gear; put it this way, I've never returned to a settlement to discover that any unusual weapons/armour I've been storing have disappeared. I think they just keep their own small set of standard stock (none of which is ever worth buying). And yes, you'll find a regular stack of caps in the 'Misc' section (I think) of your workbench, which I think is automatically added to your personal total when you buy gear from traders elsewhere. I remember buying the Big Boy from the weapons seller in Diamond City, which isn't connected to the trading route, when I only had 800 caps in my inventory. When I opened the trading window with him, my total jumped up to over 6000 :)

A tip I picked up watching a let's play about building, that seems very, very obvious now. I was building houses with full-on foundations, a square for each part of the floor. Then realised that you only really need to set one foundation square to set the height of the house, then the rest of the "foundations" can just be plain floors. If you're more OCD (like me) and don't like that the floors appear to be floating, then just make the outline of the place foundation blocks, then fill the middle with normal floors. Saves a massive amount of concrete, and means that even in your first visit to Sanctuary, you can build a pretty huge settlement just with the stuff you can scrap around that one area.

Copper's still an arse to get though.

The BoS helped me out in a battle with some very powerful Super Mutants holed up in a small house. I was short on Fusion Cores at the time and, let's face it, they were in power armour. I wanted their stuff. Took out one, thinking I was being really stealthy, and was then faced with hiding in the wee house while five of his buddies and two vertibirds surrounded. Missile Launchers, Nuke Mines, Nuka Grenades...everything used before I could get enough space to run off.

And they don't drop power cores when you kill them. b*****ds.

I just punt the meat to the workstation.

My last stimpack count was 204.

650+ started selling them off

might be gunners in a commandeered vertibird - it happens

bottles weigh, stimpacks do not. but sell sell sell for additional caps

I started a new game on Very Hard (Energy Weapons/Pistols/Junkie) and am struggling for Stimpaks. Got about 11 at last count which could be wiped out at any second if I turn the wrong corner. The challenge is a lot more satisfying for me and I've never really had to use Chems in a Fallout game until now.

I dont store anything in the workbench that Im not going to scrap

Are you trying to build a metal second storey? I tried that and it was a pain in the arse. If you look back a few pages you'll see a pic of my house in Sanctuary. I built a metal bottom floor but then went wood for the floors above. As BFTD said, replace the roof on the bottom floor with shack floor - but make sure you select the upper storey (or whatever its called) floor - its different from the normal floor. Another tip - use shack walls with floors attached, as opposed to the flat wall. They snap to the edge of the floor giving you a bit more space. I also found them easier when putting additional floors on top.

No, you cant assign youre own bed (unless it was added in the latest patch, but I dont think so). If you are a PC user, though, there is a mod that lets you build beds that NPCs wont use. I installed it and it works fine.

I did a bit more building last night. Moved all my generators into a purpose built shack behind all the houses and ran wires back to my house and down to the river where the water purifier and defences are :)

Yes. There's a bug in the quest.

I went there pre-quest and just offed everyone. Went and done the quest there and it still sends me back to hallucigen but there is nothing there to pick up. I must have picked it up without realising and stored it in a settlement. I think that's it fecked Edited by wasted

I was trying to be a good guy and keep a roof over their head

Found the caps, only 400 but I'll make sure to make regular trips. I've got 50k but I don't really spend the,m on anything other than ammo
