Scotland is a region.

That's like saying Tesco is a shoe box.

Or I go to work on a fridge.

It makes no sense.

Scotland is a country.

Scotland is a region.

Yet we have our own legal system, health system, education system, our own Parliament. We also have a national animal, flower, anthem and our own capital city. You my friend are talking out your arse yet again.

Which regions have all of these ? We are a country which has entered into a union. We are one of the oldest countries in Europe. I can't remember seeing any regions competing in the Commonwealth games. Everyone can see how wrong you are.

Cue H_B boring us all with overuse of "Westphalian" and "Sovereign states".

Scotland is a country. Arguing otherwise is ridiculous.

Do any other No voters agree with H_B that Scotland is not a country?

Scotland, as seen by Scots and rUK residents is a country.

Maybe it's just the EU who see Scotland as merely a region, or as Viviane Reding said in her letter to McKelvie, a territory.

Looks like England were extinguished as a matter of European Law according to that map IMO.

Today a common way to define a country is say that if it's a member of the United Nations, it's a country. However, the Holy See, or Vatican, isn't a member of the United Nations, but it certainly is a country. The United Kingdom is a member of the United Nations, but the countries of England, Scotland and Ireland aren't, so by the UN rule, they aren't countries.

That of course goes against what the UK government states where it declares that " The United Kingdom is made up of four countries: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. " So yes voters should be supporting the UK Gov. You know it makes sense!

So, if you really want to know how many countries there are, first select the definition you want to use, then allow for where you are and what political views you have, then you have a chance of making an educated guess at the answer!

However the following are generally accepted as Countries.

  • Afghanistan - Kabul

The petition was requested in the event of a yes vote on September 18. Do you expect me to do all the work for you. You blank bullet.

Yes, because all governments definitely like to waste time on taking hypothetical scenairos seriously on the back off no more signatures than that of a small village. Come back with that question if there actually is a Yes vote, otherwise quit acting like a Willie Rennie and stop wasting people's time.

Of course they do ya spent bullet. It keeps them occupied, and makes them look like they are doing something. "Come back with that question if there actually is a Yes vote" I like it

I meant more self-selection among respondees than the RIC. Given that the RIC announce in advance that they're going to be mass canvassing a particular area, some may choose to just ignore the knock at the door - especially if they look out of the window and see a bunch of canvassers going round the neighbours. As you said earlier, the response rate would be interesting, but I don't think they publish that. Also unlike with BPC polling, you've got no guarantees about how the question is asked, what else is being asked etc.

I'd be amazed if their latest poll doesn't show something like 65/35 in favour of yes.

Given who's behind RIC I'd suggest that they make up the figures.

I have my own concerns about how the numbers have been gathered but on the basis of canvassing I have done I wouldn't be at all surprised to see 60-40 for yes in the areas RIC have been canvassing.

What conclusions you can draw from it though I have no idea given the turnout from these areas.
