Cardinal Richelieu
Well lads, before league duties (and indeed my morning ablutions), I'm pleased to announce the results and scores for the delayed ETARIPDDJJT final. In a world and possibly universe first, it was a 3 way tie between Pleslie, The_Kincardine and Deej. First the answers.... First Half 1. Who is the only daughter of the late Reverend Hubert Brasier? - Theresa May 2. Which Premiership team has lost a record thirteen FA Cup semi-finals? - Everton 3. In response to a Freedom of Information Act request, which organisation revealed that it purchased 760 million red rubber bands in the financial year 2009–10? - Royal Mail ... I very generously gave Deej the point for Post Office 4. Of the eight English kings named Henry, who had the longest reign? - Henry III - 56 years. Set of 3 - Element of Surprise 5. Which is the first element to be mentioned in Tom Lehrer’s song The Elements? - As the song starts, there's Antimony, Arsenic, Aluminum (sic), Selenium 6. Nirvana had a top 20 single with the name of which element? - Lithium 7. In the James Bond film Goldfinger, what was Goldfinger's first name? (clue, it was based on the chemical symbol) - We had guesses of Austin, Augustus and Auric ... Auric being the right answer. Set of 3 - Specialist Subjects 8. From which train station would you catch the train to Hogwarts from Platform 9 3/4? King's Cross 9. In the modern era (i.e. after 1969), who was the first player from outside the UK to win the Snooker World Championship? Cliff "The Grinder" Thorburn 10. The actor who played the role of Michael Scofield in Prisoner Break shares his first name with the name of a prison used in another TV show. Which TV show? Forgot there's actually 2 correct answers for this now, so I accepted Wentworth or Prisoner (Cell Block H). Second Half 11. In 2012, swimmer Michael Phelps set a new record of 159 feet for the longest successful putt recorded on television; whose 31-year-old record did he beat? Terry Wogan - although Wogan had the better celebration. 12. Named after Scottish surgeon Charles Bell, Bell’s palsy affects which part of the human anatomy? Face 13. Which is the only country in Central America that does not have a Pacific coastline? Belize. 14.Which prolific author who died in 1975 is credited with coining the words gruntled, pottiness, whiffled, and zing? PG Wodehouse Set of 3 - Sport and Politics 15. Which former test-cricket captain leads the Pakistan Movement for Justice in the country’s National Assembly? Imran Khan 16. The winner of world titles in eight different weight classes and one of the world’s highest paid athletes, which boxer was elected to the Congress of the Philippines in 2010? Some creative spellings here, but everyone got Manny Pacquiao 17. Known in the ring as ‘The Body’, which former WWF star was Governor of Minnesota from 1999 to 2003? Jesse "The Body" Ventura Set of 3 - Dancefloor songs Name the artist who recorded the following songs.... 18. Blood on the Dancefloor (1997) - Michael Jackson 19. Murder on the Dancefloor (2001) - Sophie Ellis Bextor 20. Evacuate the Dancefloor (2009) - Cascada Scores and awarding of silverware to follow in a moment, after I've deciphered The_Kincardine's quiz sheet (he's managed to post every question AND answer twice). Cardinal Richelieu
Pleslie99's scores were first in, showing he was keen as mustard and up for the match (well, BWV was actually first, but he wasn't in it, although his eagerness has been noted and his score of 13 was actually very good in the end). Anyway, Pleslie banged home an impressive 7 in the first half, and their manager still wasn't impressed, so came back out in the second and rattled in 8. Next up Deej. A not very impressive 5 in the first half. Manager said "meh", so the team responded by going out in the 2nd half and scoring another 5. Finally, The_Kincardine's team were either out on the lash the night before, or they were taking bungs to throw the match - as they could only manage a paltry 4 in the first half. Kincardine gave them the hair-dryer treatment at half time, and they responded by posting an improved 6 in the second. So to summarise ... the final score Pleslie99 - 15 (7+8) Deej - 10 (5+5) The_Kincardine - 10 (4+6) So the clear winner, and NEW EtARIPDDJJT champion for April is Pleslie99! Well done to him. So all that remains to do is to do a random image search for a trophy and then use MS Paint to crudely write Pleslie's name on it... Just realised that should say April 17 but am I f**k changing it now. Edited May 4, 2017 by Cardinal Richelieu
Cardinal Richelieu
11 hours ago, Helpma said: And .... the season is doomed with one sentence. 5/10 for Thursday. And you need to rewatch Season 2 for the clue I assume you're referring to the Pina Colada song question which was probably when they were sitting around the pool? Don't see how that would help me know who sang the b*****d? Ah well. Such is life. At least I can't be relegated from the bottom league with no proper pyramid structure in place. But let's look at the movers and shakers for Thursday.... In the Premiership, I don't think I've ever seen such a big lead going before the last day. Alang1993 is six (SIX) points ahead of Frankie, with MSU hibsing it a shard. Deej was stretched very thin trying to concentrate on the cup final and Premiership survival, and it seems he's made a bollocks of both of them. In the Stealer's Wheel League, Livi Lion's laudable late lunge leaves League laugher (sic) looking likely. Kincardine is just squeezing out Helpma on QD. And we'll need to wait until gkneil and Leeds Saint pop their heads round the door before we know who's for the drop. Finally, in the BHL, Swarley continues to confound his critics with a 3 point cushion over Madwullie. Three teams are vying for the play-off, QD might well play a part in deciding that.
