The New Stadiums Thread

It is indeed.

There is going to be movable seats in the bottom tier to slide over the track. Of course, this means from the back of the bottom tier to the front of the upper tier is a 50ft flat area of nothingness.

Utterly stupid.

That does sound utterly stupid! Temporary seating above the void perhaps?

FC Aarau finally got building permission for their new ground, having struggled for the last decade to get planning permission for anything put forward. 10k capacity is around the same as the existing stadium at Brügglifield but the facilities will be a tad more modern. Will be sad to see them leave the current place when it happens as it is a real throwback of a ground and one I enjoy watching games in.

Big positive on the new place is the fact it is a 5 minute walk from the town centre and 2 minutes from the main train station.

Much better way of thinking, unlike Scots who want to put stadiums as far away from city centres as possible.

Not sure how much of that was by choice or by accident, as the site is a disused industrial estate that will require a hell of a lot of work. Whatever the case it's a good location for the fans to get to.

How many teams have their ground outside the town in Scotland? I can only think of Falkirk, St. Johnstone and soon Aberdeen.

Well are pretty much forced to given the price of land.

Yes and no. Take a swatch at any Hampden related thread and there are scores of melts suggesting we stick a national stadium just off the motorway in Stirling/Edinburgh/some ring road somewhere.

Grasshoppers and FC Zürich look as though they have finally been given permission to build their new ground. Looks a bit generic and boxy, as all new Swiss grounds seem to. Only going to hold 18500, which seems a little small to me, and is expected to cost around £350m, though that does include construction of the two tower blocks over looking the ground which they hope will generate long term income and eventually go some way towards covering the financing. For Grasshoppers fans it'll be a return to the site of their old stadium, Hardturm, as this is being built on the land that the old ground was situated on.

Not overly impressed with it, but it's a massive improvement on the Letzigrund which is a fucking awful place to watch football.
