I do wonder about how some pets - cats and dogs - will handle the separation anxiety when "normality" returns after spending so long with their owners being much more present than they normally are.

Last weekend I was away down in Ayrshire for my team's game which meant I was out from before ten in the morning till after six - despite that being less than an old-style working day, that counts as a long time out the house by the standards of recent months.

When I got back, the missus told me that a few hours in Woody our wee shorthair - who made the decision years ago he was MY cat - had started doing a circuit of all the rooms he could get into, seeing if I was there, having a wee yowl to himself when I wasn't and repeating the same process every half hour or so.

Cats being cats, by the time I got back the wee arsehole decided he was in a huff with me and ignored me for the rest of the night.

He’s a cracker. Is he still fairly young though as our old cat started doing that howling thing when he got old and demented?
