The draw is not regionalised I have heard.

Looking at the draw since 2009 they still use still use some kind of regional system. Last season draw had the majority North teams was drawn against each other.

Bert site is best for info:

As it says:

UEFA still uses some kind of regionalization in the first qualifying rounds. At first the clubs are divided into seeded and unseeded teams, and then the seeded and unseeded teams are split into regional groups. The general approach seems to use the North/Central/South scheme, but no specific rules are known.

Allowing UEFA to make up the draw to suit themselves, without any explanations!

QR1 should be. QR2 though, the draw for which takes place on the same day, generally isn't.

We should remember that we're technically in two draws that day, and should know our possible QR2 opponent, which will be a seeded team.

Edit: Just realised it's two weeks tomorrow.

  • 2 weeks later...

The ELQ1 draw is at 12 noon our time on Monday 23rd. Dons will be a seed.

The either/or ELQ2 draw is at 1:30pm our time on Monday 23rd. Dons will be a non-seed.

http://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/news/newsid=2116646.html

Before the ELQ1 draw, UEFA separates the 78 entrants into 3 groups of 10 (each with 5 seeds & 5 non-seeds) and 4 groups of 12 (each with 6 seeds & 6 non-seeds). So you know in advance the only 5 or 6 possible opponents you could get in the draw. Last season those groups were announced on UEFA's website on the Sunday afternoon.

How UEFA decides those groups is not revealed... but it is NOT regionalised - a Welsh side and a Kazakh side were in the same such draw group last season, so best prepare yourselves for anything being possible...

It looks like it was regionalised last season - the pots are available here. None of the Welsh sides had a Kazakh opponent in their group, though Prestatyn did have a side from Azerbaijan in theirs, which looks as though it was just to make up the numbers. If it wasn't regionalised then it's a hell of a coincidence that so many nearby sides seemed to be in the same pots.

I'd love College Europa if its not regionalised, or if they throw them into a "northern pot"

Assuming we get through QR1, one of the lower ranked QR2 teams would give us a chance of QR3. Any further than that would be a big ask.

Group 6
1 Aberdeen FC (SCO)
2 AS Jeunesse Esch (LUX)
3 Tromsø IL (NOR)
4 FK Ekranas (LTU)
5 Myllykosken Pallo-47 (FIN)
6 Bangor City FC (WAL)

7 Dundalk FC (IRL)
8 Stjarnan (ISL)
9 Crusaders FC (NIR)
10 Tartu FC Santos (EST)
11 ÍF Fuglafjørdur (FRO)
12 FK Daugava Rīga (LVA)

Probably dont want to be in Ireland for a second leg game on July 10th.

Iceland and Faeroes would be expensive.

Estonia and Latvia would be cheap once you got there.

It was a long time ago, I'm pretty sure they've forgotten about it....

Yeah, from a getting through with minimum of fuss point of view, we really should be looking at the Tartu mob.
