With about ten minutes to go Peter Pawlett was clean through on goal but was flagged offside - he was onside by about a mile. Then with the very last touch of the ball the visitors made the breakthrough when a long free kick into the box. As Jamie Langfield went to claim it he was clearly taken out by John Sutton who made no attempt to go for the ball. Mark Reynolds was then fouled on the line as he attempted to clear the danger after the ball had hit the bar yet referee Steven McLean somehow ignore both incidents and allowed the goal to stand.

Aberdeen's quest to finish in second place in the league finished in heart-ache this afternoon as Motherwell stole all 3 points in with virtually the last kick of the ball. The game had been a drab affair with few chances for either side but Aberdeen had dominated possession against a Motherwell side who were quite happy to sit in.

It's alright, I'll contribute towards Vincent Lunny's inevitable fine coming our way.

Only saying what I was thinking so I'll contribute!

Was almost back at the car before I even found out who'd scored. Absolute chaos in the Motherwell end, including my 60 year old faither standing on seats and losing his shit.

Some day, some team.

Hilarious raging from the dons, we got 10/15 post split, you didn't, that's your fault, not ours.

That was a sore one but pleased for the well fans who supported their team for the entire game and got behind them. As has been said, we have been off the boil lately and drawing too many games which has cost us in the end. We dominated the entire match today but had no cutting edge at all, McGinn absolutely hopeless yet again and Hayes playing full back costs us creatively too.

Not sure why people are saying McInnes is bitter as he was just saying how he saw it, a clear foul on the keeper after the free-kick

Mcinnes is bitter in every post match interview after a defeat, nearly on a par with lennon

Aberdeen cost Aberdeen £270k by not getting the job done over 38 games. They would have finished 2nd had they managed 13 points from their last 9 games, and they couldn't do it. It's not as though they didn't get crucial refereeing decisions in their favour during the season.

How has it cost them so much? Genuine question?

Motherwell scored 11 more goals than Aberdeen over the course of the season and they won 2 more games than Aberdeen; I'd suggest that is why they deservedly finished second

Derek McInnes should be looking at those statistics and figuring out how to put them right because that inability to 'put teams away' has certainly cost Aberdeen second, any chance of winning the Big Cup and very nearly lost them the LC Final too; if he doesn't AFC's chances of *improving* next season will be severely limited.

Didn;t St Johnstone fans warn that McInnes is too cautious?

Jesus. Before complaining about one poor decision we should be regretting the fact we dropped 7 points against Hearts or the drop in form we had at the last leg of the season. This just sounds petulant.
