You need not look too far for a better replacement. £5M and you can have him lads.

Dont worry, McInnes will now be chasing him for the next decade.

Anderson was a centre half, and Jack a midfielder. Lewis can hardly have any influence on the team from his place in the penalty box. I'm not a fan of having keepers as the team captain, and certainly not one as quiet as Lewis.

Ferguson has went completely off the boil since the break.  He looks lost in midfield, unsure whether to hang back or push into the box.

What is it you think the captain does? They're largely used in an off-field capacity. They shake hands first and sometimes get to toss the coin.

As soon as the goalkeeper or defenders pick up the ball, our players run to their designated spot on the pitch. Then we either go long immediately or pass the ball about between four defenders and two deep cm's before placing ourselves under pressure and going long. It's been happening the whole season.

Once the opposition are confident they can hold on to the point or 3 they look like achieving they drop everyone back and then we continue to pass the ball around the defence.

I’m no Cove fan but it would do McInnes no harm to watch them play.

Tommy Wrights tactical analysis on how they won added to the frustration. Essentially what everyone on here has been saying for the past few months.

This.

Heard it on the radio......the three points at Pittodrie guideline.

Force them to give the ball back to their defenders all the time.  CHECK

Press and hassle said defenders, leading to an aimless punt   CHECK

Ensure your centre halves contest and win the aimless punts  CHECK

If they do occasionally manage to work the ball wide, force the wide player to cut inside and congest the middle area with bodies  CHECK

Do not worry about full-backs getting forward and making a spare man  CHECK*  (*  this Venezuelan dude a bit of an unknown here, but he hasn't played for ages)

Corners and other set pieces will generally be floaty and aimless - ensure your defenders can head and your keeper can catch  CHECK

Don't bother marking the wee Irish-American dude who seems to get a game quite often, his first touch will do the job for you   CHECK

If you get a chance, take it and listen to the frustration from the home stands turn toxic   CHECK

Train wherever you want - multi purpose super duper purpose built facilities and warm-weather training camps clearly make f**k all difference   CHECK

Maybe when things are going well but when things go bad or hopefully before is when a good Captain makes a difference, difficult so far away from the middle of things (inc the dugout & Ref/opposing players)

Agree more with Merkland Red here. Keeper captains are not a specific problem. They work fine in enough examples.

The big issue we have is that we don't have enough people prepared to lead and take control of things when they are going wrong. We have technically reasonable players with little leadership quality. It really has been an increasing problem since the 2017 Cup Final. We have never replaced the likes of Jack, Shinnie Hayes christ even Christie took games by the scruff of the neck.

I look at our current team and see no leaders outwith Joe Lewis. We are too timid as a team and it shows when we lose a goal and cannot respond. We are a soft touch mentally.

They seem more concerned at being angry with fans being angry with them, rather than the proverbial 'scruff of the neck' thing.

The only examples of 'let's fkin sort this $hite out' mentality witnessed this season was Bryson coming on at HT in Celtic 0-4 and ensuring the second-half flip-flop wearing Celtic side did no further damage - and to a small extent, Devlin can at times being vocal. Alas Bryson is seldom seen, and Devlin has not proven to the be the quality defender we thought we'd signed given the first few months evidence before his injury last season.

You don't need a captains armband to tell someone to pull their finger out.

Maybe not, but a vocal, inspiring leader on the park is something that every great team has. Scott Brown may be a d1ck,  but he's their undisputed captain and leader. He's the man they look to when things aren't going well.

What we have at the moment is a team that's leaderless and rudderless. Lewis is a good keeper but it's hard to see him as leader material. On top of that, we've got 10 outfield players that are hiding and/or waiting for others to take the lead.

A bad choice in captain isn't the main fucking reason why we're losing like pussies to the likes of St Johnstone, but it doesn't help.

But if not the Captain the ones getting moaned at are prob thinking who does he think he is to say that Captain?

Not the big issue but hasn't been great under Lewis

In all the games I've played since I was a child I can't ever remember once getting upset because someone who wasn't wearing an armband gave me a row. You'd like to think professionals could show the same attitude.

If Scott Brown came out of international retirement for the next game do you think he'd decide not to be a leader because Robertson is the captain? No he obviously wouldn't.

If one of the outfield players is made captain are they suddenly going to inspire? Joe Lewis as captain has nothing to do with this shambles of a season.

I see the usual mob are replying to it with shit about sacking McInnes. Imagine the embarrassment of signing a deal for the club and then having the club's fans make it look stupid by acting like children having a tantrum at the completely unrelated announcement.

Don’t see much praise on this thread for the quality of our goal last night. It really is quite perfect and simple.
Totally worth it winning the game for us.

Our defenders went for a pint and the boy had a free run to goal. Pipe down.

Conceding straightforward goals isn't a new thing for us given our recent form so you're probably going to have to try harder for a bite.

Genuinely surprised at how much Saints fans are getting excited about the result to be honest. I didn't think beating us is that big a deal for just about anyone this season. 😂

Saints fans, especially the ones on here, are absolute tadgers.
