Heart of Midlothian 2014-

Given that the first half of the decade was dominated by Hearts slow depressing spiral into administration following the Lithuanian banking crisis and the second half was dominated by the long struggle to emerge from it I think our 2010s derby record is quite satisfactory really all things considered

Things are a bit easier when you can offer a £10 million plus salary.

Yes, money helps but they are fishing in an even smaller pool than us - for proven managers who win stuff at the top level. Think the trick is to see it coming, know who you want, sound them out (unofficially of course), then humanely fire the bullet. Not wait and wait until you are bottom of the league then be forced into the decision because the fans have resorted to singing at  the manager "we ant you to go" and they have started to turn their anger towards the owner.

What’s the figures??

After their decade of dominance, Hibs amassed 9 wins in 10 years. Obviously admin ruined a few years and playing an 12’s team for season didn’t help so Hearts only managed 15 wins over the decade.

When you remove Romanov the picture changes substantially.  So bitter we got our Number 1 and Hearts need to settle for whatever dregs there are left.
If you give all hearts derby wins to hibs during the romanov era, Hearts have still won 100+ more than Hibs...

Evening News says we struggling to get the manager we want for the sake of a few hundred grand. FFS. That's buttons compared to the cost of 3-4 year contracts that Levein was throwing about like confetti for crap players to add to our squad of 192 or whatever.

Aye, but those contracts have already been signed and the money spent.
We’ve wasted more than that on x, doesn’t mean we have the money to spend on y.
I would like to see Stendel get the gig and hope his severance package can be agreed (f**k knows when) to cover the points between his sacking and u employing him.

The smaller pool probably made things faster for Spurs. Who else was available? Also having the director of football being a different person to the outgoing coach must have helped sounding out potential successors

Spurs may not have grazed the bottom of the league like Hearts but Hearts never sank as low as 14th and Spurs were doing it o the back of a Champions league final. if we were to argue with their fans as to who had the most depressing autumn then both sides would have a case to make.

Hearts fans would have to be weapons-grade optimists to look at a team touching the bottom of a 12-team league and think 'Cheer up, at least we're not 14th'

Maybe Barnsley now appointing their new manager will speed up their settlement with Stendel?

It says substantial six figure fee.  That could be £6-700k for all we know. i'd imagine there'd be a bit wiggle room though, maybe we are just playing hardball, Barnsley would surely prefer some money rather than being lumped with it all.

£600-700K? Okay - 2 of Levein’s shit signings.

Right, but you can't unsign those signings. They're already here and contracted up and you're stuck with them unless you can find some mug willing to pay them even higher wages to take them off your hands.

Now Hearts could cut the player budget by the same amount for next year and a half, instead. Though the notion of a pre-emptive chopping of the incoming manager's player budget might also give prospective candidates pause for thought as to how the job would affect their future careers. Still, I'm sure Ann Budge and her team could put their thinking caps on, ponder over the candidates roster, and come up with someone who'd be willing to take the job, despite the adverse circumstances.

Any ideas?
