Listen I have looked back and I can give you some examples Billy McNeil got 13 caps winning silverware all over the place.
His direct opponent was McKinnon with 28 caps, the same goes with jinky and Bobby Lennox.

McKinnon got his first cap in 1965 when your very own Jock Stein (managing Scotland's WC campaign) dropped McNeil.  Others Stein could have picked included Frank McLintock (only 9 caps) or Ron Yeats (astonishingly, 2 caps).  As has been pointed out, we had a wealth of riches at that time.

McKinnon's first game was vs Italy whom we beat 1-0 with a goal from Greig - one of Scotland's best ever players and who won only 44 caps.  In contrast 'Heid' has 55 and is on Scotland's Roll of Honour whereas neither Greig nor McNeil are.  I know the bar is set at 50 caps but to exclude two of greatest club captains of the postwar era is astounding

Playing for a team who won a European cup doesn't make you the best player in that position for your national team.  Jim Craig won 1 cap  and that was probably 1 too many.  He wasn't very good.  In comparison, Sandy Jardine who joined Rangers at the same time as Craig joined Celtic, didn't get his first Scotland cap until 1970 and was a vastly superior player.  However, the full backs of choice were Tam Gemmell and Eddie McCreadie so it was difficult to see how either Craig or Jardine could be picked ahead of either of them.

So you really need to look at the bigger picture rather than just greeting about some conspiracy.

Alan Hansen has 3 European cup medals and 26 Scotland caps

A ratio of 9:1 less than the average Lisbon Lion

John McGovern won 2 European cups as captain of Forest and never got beyond Scotland U23

Ken McNaught (Aston Villa 1981) never got that far

And in all these cases that’s despite playing some years after the Lisbon Lions when there were more internationals.

It seems to genuinely surprise Celtic fans that loads of folk who aren't Celtic fans don't give a shit about the 'Lisbon Lions' (what a cringey as f**k name by the way).

Obviously I get why they're so revered by Celtic and their fans, and any other club and their fans would do likewise in a similar situation, but it comes across sometimes that Celtic fans think non Celtic fans should show reverence to them as well.

Well take that to f**k. It's their history and they can keep it. I don't care about it.

Only eclipsed by 'The Barcelona Bears'!

Have you considered

Even for a moment

It’s possible that they got a “measly”number of caps because they weren’t actually that good.

If fate smiles on this Hearts side and we somehow win our ninth Scottish Cup this month I will hail them all as heroes but I won’t try to insist they were the strongest team in the competition they will have been a decent side that found their best performance when superior opponents faltered.

And that is how you should look at Inter Milan

The glorious thing about the Lisbon lions is not how good they were but how good they were on the day that mattered.

It's good but it's not Lisbon lion good,we're not talking about one game we're talking about their careers.
Even after winning the European cup Bertie Auld got no caps.

The selection committee was still in charge up in til 66.

As someone said earlier, John McGovern captained two sides to European Cup victory, and received not a single cap.
