I’ve said this before, if ever a player deserves a bit of sentimental loyalty from the club it’s Swankie. He’s been an incredible player for us over the years and it won’t be costing the club much to keep him on for another few months.

Still has enough to offer on the pitch too.

A contact extension for Gav until the summer. He’s hardly figured this season. Is Dick struggling to bring in new players?

You need players in the squad that are happy to sit on the bench. I don't know if Swankie is helping with coaching etc but no issue with keeping him for another 4 months.

Genuinely don't get this extension, put his wages towards a new signing, whether that be a loanee or a permanent signing, could play every week for someone else, surely, canna imagine he is helping with coaching, how many coaches can we possibly need

Fs man could you imagine how pissed off the team and players would be if we bombed him out now. If he’s getting bombed out like that after everything he’s done which is probably more than anyone other than Little and Linn then how does that look and how does that make the rest of the players feel... They’re not robots, there’s more to a good team and squad than the playing side of things

Thankfully DC and the coaches and all the board too realise this

Gav signed up until the end of the season

Possibly a wee bit of sentiment attached to this.  Looking at the bigger picture, squad harmony, loyalty, etc probably the right decision overall.

If I was a player and we’d let Gav go in the middle of this season I’d be pretty pissed off: not what we are about as a club. We’ve shown players loyalty and we’ve been repaid big time for that. That’s what we’re all about now and I don’t want that to change. Look at our players rallying around Dowds after he was treated a bit shit from Falkirk. Fans, coaches and board all appreciate how much the players have done for the club and Gav been a massive part of this journey so far. At end of season fine but halfway through a season like this you need to let and want Gav to be a part of it

Please don't take this the wrong way, but this is over sentimental tosh, we are top of the championship, surely we have never been in a better position to recruit players, players who could improve the team, because let's be brutally honest here, the clubs below us probably will strengthen this month, so we need to also, anyway DC is bright enough, not to bring in any player, who would be detrimental to team chemistry

And we can still do that?

We could, but if this happens, then Gav is likely not to get a shirt

And that’s ok too? He’s barely played anyway

Imagine he will potentially only get a handful of appearances. Maybe a game against Darvel

But we should look after our players and we should definitely be looking after and keeping the Gavin Swankie’s around the place in the position we are in. Club legend let him and want him to be a part of it

Id maybe question it if it was an 18 month contract but got absolutely no issue keeping him til end of season,
Seems well liked around the squad and has been mentioned he sits on the bench until called upon,
Also what he has done for club he deserves it,

Notice Dowds is starting for Falkirk today, that might put an end to him signing

Exactly.

if you want zero loyalty from your board and manager and also want to show the door to dedicated pros and or club legends, then Gary Caldwell’s yer man.

Think the thing with Dowds that we will miss more than the goals is him taking us up the park running channels holding it up and being direct

Hamilton doesn’t get about the park nearly as well we will have to change it a bit

More Nicky Low and Bobby required to to create chances for him. And whoever else we bring in
