Killie vs St Mirren - 13/09/14

Are you comparing being a professional football to an average workplace? I think you knew that I didn't mean seven days a week, as days off after matches etc are fine. But is there any reason you know of why a footballer can't train Monday to Friday in the build up to an average weekend?

Yes, I am comparing it. You may now want to acknowledge it, but the overwhelming majority of St. Mirren and Killie players will view it as a job, and people don't like arbitrarily losing days off. Is two hours of extra training worth everyone being annoyed at you?

I don't know what their employment contract stipulates. Maybe on the Wednesday they have a personal training regime as opposed to a formal group training session. I think its appropriate they get a day off during the week given they will be working at the weekend - you know, being treated like any worker would.

Personally, I'd view drinking alcohol (especially in excessive quantities) as a severe lack of ambition for any professional sportsman. But that's hardly a common view in this country.

Yeah, pity you couldn't come up with an actual response.

At least your three week MS Paint course has went to good use.

Sorry, I didn't realise that your ridiculous post deserved an erudite reply. If you're so desperate for one then here you go...

You continue to liken being a footballer to having a "real life" job, yet you mention that a footballer will work for two-hours a day. If my work schedule stipulated that I work ten hours a week, then an "arbitrary day off" wouldn't feel like such a necessity to me. You know because, unlike any other worker, I'm home around midday on any given day.

However, the St Mirren players should be a bit more savvy than to be going out clubbing the week of a league match when they have yet to even score this season. I'd also be questioning why they're getting a Wednesday off when their record has been so abysmal this season - I'd be wanting my players in every day to remedy the issues.

 Shut up. They have as much right as anyone else to go out regardless of how they are performing at their work. It's their livelihoods at stake at the end of it.

In your opinion.

Anyway, I'm really disappointed in this thread. The St Mirren fans really vanish when their side is performing badly don't they... Where's the bravado gone? :(

Wrote a preview on the game, if anyone would like to check it, that'd be great! :)

Have given it a read mate genrally very well written artical. Would have missed out the bit about trouble between fans. Thought Killie and Saints fans get on quite well together. Thomo retiring ? first I have heard that. He was in London seeing specialist, got an injection and has been told to rest, no time period however the specialist did say he will play again

Cheers mate! Last season I believe there was trouble between fans and it made it to papers etc.

Re Thompson, I was going by what I'd read on the St Mirren thread and forums, and came across these;

Shaky source to say the least, but someone on BAWA was talking to Thommo today in a chance meeting and remarked that he can't wait to see him fit and in among the goals as we desperately need him.

His response was something along the lines of 'I think my playing days are nearly done, to be honest'

A bleak self-assessment, if true. :(

Yes , and I've heard that from another decent source who said he's retiring due to injury and other goings on within the club !

I understand they could be a lot of shite, but I did state they were rumours ;). I've also seen various tweets suggesting it.

Saints will win 6v0 with Magennis netting a hat-trick of o.g's. Thommo will win your half time draw and donate the prize to a cat and dog home and to top it off your new pitch will start lifting and peeling in the heat.

Add in the brass and granite giving away free beer all day and Saints are back

How was that for bravado ???

You were doing fine until you mentioned the B&G giving away beer...

Thanks for that, both these guys are good reliable posters. If Thomo does not come back we will go down I would put money on it.

That was my thinking, that's why I mentioned it in the article. As much as I want to see other sides do as badly as possible, it'd be a shame seeing Thompson retire. He's a good, committed player and would be a bad thing to lose someone like that from the game. My opinion anyway.

I must've missed this. I usually meet Killie bird work colleague and pals in the Howard Arms and have always found your fans to be a decent bunch as is anyone supporting your local team.(I've only lived in Ayr about 7 years) Working till 4 tomorrow so wont make it...I'd be happy with a point.

Hope not to see Ngoo in my local again on sunday
