RossBFaeDundee
I remember Boyle being really frustrating as the talent was there for all to see, but it just felt like he just couldn't score to save his life while with us, so many sclaffed chances. Had a lot of similarities with McMullan I think now looking back, though I'd venture to say McMullan has already hit his peak while Boyle clearly hadn't. I do wonder how different his development might've been had he stayed with us, but moving to Hibs (probably especially because they were in the 2nd tier at the time) was the best move he could've made, and so it has proved.

I disagree Harris was total pish. Then again, boys hung McGinn out yet still fawn over Kerr (who has never reached McGinn's level). For the record I never hung McGinn or Holt out!

Crawford
McGinn was great for us and when he left, the defence became much less formidable. Holt was infuriating to watch because in the Hartley era it was all out attack all the time and he was the only person who returned the ball back to the keeper. Obviously doing it to retain possession which is important, but when everyone else was surging forward and playing exciting football he was slowing everything down and playing back the way. He wasn't a bad player, he was just playing a different game.
Wee jeemie
I can’t remember any abuse of McGinn while he was at dens except one game against Ross co , think it 4 nil at dens and most of the goals came down Paul’s side , apart from that game he got nothing but praise

He apparently couldn't defend, we were losing goals at the back post (he was doubled up on as Harlin's and Stewart were way up field) and it was his fault. The blame shifted to them when it was Cammy losing the goals though. He was also chased for not being able to cross.
Pens_Dark
https://dundeefc.co.uk/news/ryan-sweeney-departs-the-club/ Sweeney gone. Done the job for us in getting promotion but I thought the first half of last season he was particularly poor and contributed to a lot of bad results. We have improved on him in my opinion getting Shaugnessy in.

Dundee-FC92
Thank f**k Sweeney wanted to move on. 'New and improved deal'. Deary me, Dundee. As it stands whether it was actually the clubs intention or not we are in a stronger position. Another centre back in on a decent wage I'd presume replacing Sweeney. Thank you.

See I didn’t blame him when he was left isolated and neither, unlike you, do I blame Cammy. Full backs who can cross really well and defend play in the EPL.

Thomohawk
Sweeney's debut, interestingly (or perhaps not), was in the same game that Joe Shaughnessy scored for us! https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/57951050
RossBFaeDundee
I liked Sweeney well enough, but a 'new and improved deal'? Help ma boab. I'm sure he'll do fine heading back south.
Dee Bliss
Retaining 1 from Ashcroft and Sweeney is ideal, not both. Ashcroft was the better of the 2 last season.

Agreed, said earlier in the thread that the backs (6) that were hopeless in the top league last time weren't going to be any different this time, we have re-signed enough of them. Much as we all like to boo Dundee at the slightest mistake, our fans are not half loyal when it comes to bang average players leaving.
