Agree with all that,Iain Munro was also decent, but never got a proper chance.

Yeah, IIRC he got somewhat shafted. Wasn't he binned for having an average home record in our promotion-winning season? We had a brilliant away record.

Sure we gave Partick six at Firhill.

Yup, that's the one I remember. That was only a game or two after beating Hamilton 4-1 away, with Eddie Gallagher's mental scoring streak. He got 3 at Accies in the first half then two in the first half at Firhill. Ironically Jim Duffy was in Partick's defence that day

From my admittedly vague memory, both his firhill goals were scrappy fuckers. One was as a result of an indirect free kick about 6 yards out

Eddie was another of the illustrious list of players to play for Thistle and Dundee.

Since its effectively preseason here is my Jag Dees XI

Gk Scott Fox - only other I can think of is Tam Carson

RB Alan Dinnie - good with us anyway

LB Steve Pittman - Pitbull 8)

CB Jim Duffy - Class act

CB Barry Mackay

RM Ray Farningham

CM GGH

CM Chic Charnley

LM Derek Lyle :P

CF Gerry Britton

CF Geordie Shaw

Sub Eddie Gallagher ;)

Someone must be able to do better?

Neil McCann and Ian McCall also hung up at Firhill but never got to kick a ball in anger.

Ian McCall was also Blue and White and filled Stainrod's shoe with shite 8)

Shaw and Britton were tremendous. One of my favourite ever goals at Dens was a Georgie Shaw diving header against, I think, Thistle in the cup. If memory serves I think Dinnie had left Dens for Firhill by that point.

Great effort. Some great players there.

Am I just getting older or was football more enjoyable in the 70's, 80's and 90's?

I think that was the one were Duffy was pure raging with Andy Murdoch our keeper? The headline was a mock answer machine along the lines of you cannae pick up on this just leave the ball in the back of the net :(

Was this around the start of the back pass rule? Andy never coped with that and drifted out the game and became a polis.

There have been a few more have played for both teams in my time .
In no particular order: Davie McKinnon,George Mackie, Willie Jamieson ,Albert Craig , Gordon Chisholm ,James Grady, Eddie Annand,Kevin Magee, Barry Smith and Jamie Langfield.

Who could forget Barry's winner against the last named.

Also the were a few from the list that ended up in the jail.

Stainrod was very decent if I recall correctly. Was gutted when he was moved to director of football or some pish.

He wasn't as good as he was when he played for Falkirk previously. A massively talented footballer nonetheless, although he often got dogs abuse from a good few of the support, probably because he didn't run around like a headless chicken for 90 minutes. I remember one game at the old Douglas Park where he skinned two Accies players then curled a shot from 20 yards which rebounded off the post, cue the guy behind me unleashing a stream of expletives in Stainrod's direction. Some of our fans are just mental

His short time as manager was hugely entertaining though. We had a half decent squad of players and played some pretty decent stuff. Most folk will obviously remember the 4-3 home win against Rangers, but we also beat United at Tannadice early season and some other decent results. I can't remember if he was still there for the 4-4 at St Johnstone or the 2-2 comeback at Airdrie, but after 3 or 4 miserable seasons it was a good time to be around the club and there was a decent atmosphere.

There was an article on Stainrod as a player in one of the fanzines of the time, possibly The Absolute Game, in which Stainrod's controversial Sheffield Wednesday career was summed up as "He was the sort of guy that would skin 10 players then duff his shot at the keeper".

Also briefly made fedoras cool.
