Think this will be their final season in the Lowland League, unless they have something special up their sleeves.

I think they'll be ok, it's quite rare that they are this bad. They'll not last to long in the LL but they'll do what they've alway done in the EoS, probably Div 1-ish beside Heriot Watt eventually

«Sean McAuley becomes Edinburgh University Association Football Club Head Coach.

McAuley, who brings a wealth of experience from his roles at Bonnyrigg Rose and the Scottish Football Association, began working with the Club on 1 June ahead of the Performance Squad’s preseason programme starting on 19 June.»

Will be interesting to see if he can bring the change that is needed.

A thread from 2014 resurrected you must've went back some pages to find that. Fair play.

Was the best Edinburgh University thread I could find.

Didn't even know they had one to be fair.

Great set up down Peffermill way, they punch well above their LL weight season after season.

Would love to see them stay as long as possible just for the sheer anger of some posters.

I've a feeling this thread might get "bullied" this season

Thought Edin Uni had a weaker than usual side last season... kinda just the luck they get of enrollments I guess... but it's gonna be harder for them as the stronger sides gradually move up... they are definitely eventually gonna go down... but given they regularly tend to be "good guys" when certain votes come around, I hope they get a few more years!

Very little news coming out from the club at the moment, in front of what could be a tough season.

Fair comment. The Uni could communicate a bit better. They are punching above their weight to be in the LL but they had the vision to commit to the LL when others were ignoring it. They will always be fighting relegation as other, stronger clubs join the LL but University teams fluctuate as students come and go. University of Stirling had a great season but they are in transition. It is right that the LL grows stronger each year and that will mean that weaker teams will be relegated. At a higher level, East Stirlingshire, Cowdenbeath, Berwick, Brechin and Albion Rovers know that too well. It is difficult to interpret recent actions by the SPFL as anything other than self-preservation. What is slightly more surprising is that they are prepared to sacrifice their former members to life with little chance of a return (except a wild card entry to the League Cup).

For those who are interested, Edinburgh University and Preston Athletic played a very competitive closed-door match today with Preston coming out on top. Sean McAuley will have been encouraged by many things he has seen from his hew team but they still managed to leak cheap goals. Preston showed a competitive spirit and they should be pushing for promotion this season.

Any restrictions they have are self-imposed.

That is true. From the SFA and SLFL viewpoint there are no restrictions. However, Edinburgh University's aim is to allow students to experience playing at the highest possible level. A small number of alumni can play in SLFL matches - it's rather like allowing over-age players in reserve matches since it brings benefits to the younger student players to play alongside more experienced players. Another, often forgotten, aim of the club is to allow players to study whilst playing in professional football. An aspiring professional player doesn't need to choose between football or studying - he can do both.

Are you studying at the University of Edinburgh in 2022/23? Are you are a talented footballer looking to continue playing at a high level? We are recruiting for our First team and our other three teams."

I think it's good that you have teams where studying and being a footballer at a high level, is a natural combination.

Good attendance at East Peffermill today and a game which was no classic but was highly entertaining. Edinburgh University opened the scoring in the third minute only to be 1-2 down at the break. Then 2-2, 2-3, 3-3 and in the final two minutes 3-4. A couple of first-class saves and a couple of daft scores but little gulf between the teams. Civil Service should push on to a top half position. University are still waiting for some players to return and on this form are not going to be isolated at the bottom.

After a promising first round, Tranent should still be too difficult in the second.
