gavin_3110
Myself and three mates going to Amsterdam on the 17th of April for two nights, looking for somewhere cheap to stay. Anyone able to recommend anywhere decent from personal experience? Cheers
#Gary
Stay somewhere central would definitely be my advice.
Romeo
Stay somewhere central would definitely be my advice. ^^^ this It really depends on your budget, It's been years since I have been and I have stayed in some nice hotels in Amsterdam and some total shit holes. It's a great city though, you'll love it. Watch out for pick pockets, especially in the red light district.

Drew Brees
We stayed in a hostel and I haven't a clue where or what the name was, was wasted before I got to it and remained that way til we flew home. Hope that helps. Edited January 30, 2015 by Drew Brees
1320Lichtie
We booked last minute so ended up somewhere beside Museum Square. Literally a minute away. Took us 5 minutes to tram it in. Was decent enough, just a hostel. Wads of young people our age getting blootered in it. Anywhere centralish will be decent. Only there one night but I found the drink extremely expensive, I was paying about 7/8 euro a pint im sure.

While you were there you should have got a cheap flight to Glasgow, only 1hr30mins away, great nightlife and cheap drink and you can be back in Amsterdam in time to catch your flight home. Mate just texted me, twas the Globe hostal, central and cheap.

MONKMAN
My cousin went to Amsterdam in November, consumed a copious amounts of narcotics, wandered the street naked and clotheslined a policeman off a motorbike. He required 2 operations to fix his mangled arm (my cousin, not the policeman) and they put him in a mental hospital over there. They're putting is down PTSD as he's recently left the army, but 5 days of shrooms and mdma is enough to send anyone a bit loopy. Amsterdam is great.
gavin_3110
Cheers for the advice folks, all sorted now. Fine story Monkman, if I have half as much fun as that I'll be happy. I'll post my tales of woe. Going to see System of a Down while we're there. Now to break it to the other half...
Ross.
Anyone been recently? I'm heading there this weekend and wondering if there is anywhere unmissable in terms of pubs/clubs.
Ross.
Been lots of times. Head to Rembrandtplein and Leidseplein and you can't really go far wrong. Have a good one! #jealous Our hotel is on Rembrandtplein. It's a shit hole but will be used for no more than a few hours kip, so no issues there.

Fudge
Going over on friday for a weekend, planning doing the Heineken experience, anyone got any recommendations for a bevvy at night? Going over this weekend as well. Everyone who has been a few times has their own favourite places. Do you want to sit with a joint and a pint or or go to some nightclub type place? Heineken experience is rubbish and a complete waste of money

Heineken experience is rubbish and a complete waste of money Probably look to do a bit of both, we've got Friday,Saturday and Sunday night so probably just chill with a joint on Sunday. Guy at work told me about a place called Popeyes(might be wrong) that's good for a smoke I'll keep that in mind about the Heineken experience but I'll probably be forced into it since my mates will want to do it
MONKMAN
Buy a box of mushrooms, consume box of mushrooms and then go to Excalibur bar and wait for them to kick in. You'll have the best or worst night of your life.

Coffeeshop Popeye allegedly sell sprayed Vanilla Kush, I would avoid the place. My personal favourites are Voyagers (near the train station), Utopia (behind the palace on Dam Square) and Kadinsky (off Damrak) or Paradox (Jordaan) for hash. 1e Hulp is also good but a fair walk from the centre.
