If we don't beat the Armenians - second lowest coefficient in QR1 - then it will be as poor a result as any from Scottish clubs in Europe recently. It'll be tricky over there obviously but there are really no excuses. Red Star Belgrade will be daunting if they progress but having the second leg at home is a bonus and if the tie is alive, will bring in a big crowd. Think the QR1 tie has to be priced sensibly though.

Tbf Red star havent been very impressive in Europe recently. Put out in the 3rd rounf in 2012/13 on pens to Omonia , put out in the 3rd again in 2013/14 to Chornomorets Odesa losing 3-1 and they werent in the 2014/15 due to financial irregularities . Would say you have a chance if you dont get thumped in Belgrade.

Maybe its just the name "Red Star Belgrade" thats putting doubt into my mind tbh

I think we always do far better when we're away from home first and know exactly how to approach it, so I'm glad we'll be away first both times

Shite or no shite, if St Johnstone progress against Red Star Belgrade, in terms of stature that's up there (Possibly even bettering) their results against Rosenberg.

All the best lads.

You're quite right. It's not the 80's/90's any more. Getting over the name is the first obstacle. They are in Round One of the Europa League Qualifiers for a reason.

St Johnstone should have a very easy win against this lot. Only the pub team from Gibraltar were ranked lower than them in the draw. Shite draw for the fans though, at least Belgrade is fairly easy to reach.

Not too easy to return from alive though.

What the chances that FC Kairat Almaty getting through? Their more or less China ffs

They're sitting second in their domestic league at the moment, and Red Star aren't the force they used to be.

I wouldn't be that surprised if they managed it!

They have a striker who's scored 17 goals in 16 matches :o

Travelling to far away and unknown places is part of the thrill of European competition. As much as regionalisation is a good idea financially, it would get pretty boring to keep playing Icelandic, Norwegian, Lithuanian or Irish clubs every year.

The clubs get 200k for participating in this round - that should surely cover a charter to Armenia?

To be fair, we've only ever played a Norwegian side out of your list above.

It's abou £500 for the flights to Armenia alone, and that's with a stop to Moscow where you would require a visa in certain circumstances. Might not be too bad when it's a 1 off, but some people will still be paying off their credit cards from trips to Turkey, Norway, Switzerland and Slovakia over the last few years!

We've never actually visited the same country twice in Europe, which is a record we will maintain based on these draws.

We'll manage to get a team from Siberian Russia next round if we manage to get through these two. Just watch.

Red Star v Partizan a few months back looked fun !

Good luck to Saints though - they're more a name now, and it's a winnable tie and not completely inconceivable you'll face the Kazakhs from Almaty (which is near the Chinese border and will make Armenia seem like a short hop).
