That's the best Morton home top in at least 20 years if not longer. Firmly in the shut up and take my money category, although you'd have thought they'd have got the players in the full kit for the launch rather than just the training shorts so we see them with the correct colour shorts and socks

What's with the pair of bouncers in the background?

Thank you.

Lol. They're well known down here.

McGill's is a bus company. They also own a double glazing company among others.

0-0 at half time against Alloa.

Is anyone surprised that we're struggling to score goals even in pre-season against lower league teams?

Still baffled at Muirhead and Oliver getting contracts.

Nah, at this stage it isn’t about what we have done… it’s about what we’ve not done.

Six (maybe) to come; the level of quality there will determine whether we’ve progressed.

We've already signed three forwards, none of which have a credible record of scoring goals. Short of us signing Messi or chucking our 'quality not quantity' line in the bin, that position is done already.

Don’t agree: if he sticks with 4-3-3, two of the possible six to come should be forwards… the level of quality of those two will go a long way to determining how we are overall (goalkeeper and another centre-mid being the other two priorities).

Quality is hard to come by, but McPherson - so far, at least - has shown he maybe isn’t going to settle too easily for ‘do a job’ types.

Oh really, then why did all of Robbie Muirhead, Gary Oliver, Gozie Ugwu and - well beyond that pale - Cameron fucking Blues already get a new contract awarded to them under McPherson's watch? Why are the current set of jobber trialists being sniffed around by such fellow giants of the game like, erm, Kelty Hearts?

For a ruthless manager who isn't going to settle for less he sure looks intent on building his squad around exactly that. He may have said one thing but has actually shown something else entirely.

Never said he was ruthless… but he’s been more circumspect than Hopkin (or Duffy at his worst). He’s perfectly entitled to look at all sorts of players in friendlies; but it’s encouraging that we haven’t panic-signed them.

(For comparison, Dunfermline have signed Dan Pybus…)

Ugwu offers something different to Oliver, Muirhead I’d have let go (but can see it if, as said, he sticks with 4-3-3).

Blues, I’ll give you.

If McPherson doesn’t add at least three (and ideally four) out-and-out first-team players between now and August, your criticism will be justified; at the moment, it’s premature.

It's not premature at all: our competitive season starts in six days' time. Of our three pre-season games, we have wasted two by giving time to obvious ringers to 'take a look at them', when a cursory glance at the likes of Botti Biabi's CV (first page: most recent employment) would have been sufficient to say 'no' and tell him to go directly to Kelty instead, which represents his level. That is piss-poor preparation now, which has got nothing to do with who the manager ends up signing by the end of August.

You've already shifted the goalposts on possible additions from six to four, which means that the latter figure would need a 100% hit rate if the team is to be anything other than a toothless and beyond tedious to watch outfit, yet again. So much for the bright new future because nothing on the park or in our squadbuilding points to any meaningful change.

Read the post: six signings, four (or minimum three) of which need to be starters. 66% (50% min) ratio to make ‘quality over quantity’ mean anything at all.

I agree we’re behind: point is I’d rather be behind than taking on dross to fill out the squad.

He might be holding his nerve, he might be snookered… we’ll soon find out.

Ugwu is the dictionary definition of a "do a job signing " to be fair.

Problem is that the expression ‘do a job’ usually translates at Cappielow as ‘won’t actually do any kind of fuckin job’.

We signed much, much worse than Ugwu last pre-season.

We're actually doing a combination of both, as our dung forward line and the presence of Blues in the squad already confirm, and the absolute haddies that we're resorting to 'take a look at' in our preparation games for the cup demonstrate as well.
