Rudolph Hucker
Yup.Especially when the teams he’s talking about are one and two divisions above his own. Quite sad, really. Nah, not really!
MS RR
I see Hopkin was having to pay for food and bonuses for the players at Morton, even resigned to ensure players weren't released. A very honourable act by the guy. The problem is that Morton just aren't a big enough club to justify being full-time. Morton should be living within their means and not extending themselves to an unsustainable expenditure. It's actually quite rash and unethical what Morton are doing, buying players they can't afford and then chopping players who believe they are secure at the club. The SFA should do something about this. -

Dunning1874
It's entirely understandable for a manager who's supposed to be in control of recruitment to feel they've been undermined if they've been told 'you have to get rid of these specific players' rather than 'you have to reduce the wage bill by £X.' Walking from the job as a result, if that's what happened, is reasonable. That's before considering the board's handling of the budget in the first place, which was such a mess they needed to lose five or six players three months into the season, only being averted from doing so by being given an obscenely huge sum of public money. They've also still saved four wages on the manager and goalkeeping coach/scout walking out, with two loanees returning to their parent clubs (not that the club have bothered to inform us of this). It reflects absolutely terribly on the board, it's another sign of Golden Casket's incompetence and it's another on the long list of reasons to be glad they'll be gone for good soon. However, it doesn't follow that Hopkin is particularly deserving of sympathy either. Judging by his tone he wasn't willing to let any players go, but he had four signings he was looking to make? So he wanted to run with a first team squad of 26?! That would be an insanely huge squad for any club at our level, never mind one pleading poverty as he is still doing now he's gone. His recruitment was an absolute mess from start to finish, and it's telling that his only managerial success came when he was left to the coaching side of things at Livingston with Martindale in charge of signings. Any board buying into how he's talked himself up for winning titles and promotions there would do well to remember that. He's also not telling the full story when talking about covering costs himself, which casts doubt on every other claim he's making.

Stevie Aitken's Love Child
https://www.gmfc.net/captain-jim-mcalister-to-retire/ Club captain Jim McAlister makes the shock announcement that he is retiring from football after this Saturday's game. No suggestion of an injury or anything like that, just looking to move onto new opportunities. Disappointed to lose him, especially in the middle of the season like this, but best of luck for the future Jim.
Dunning1874
McAlister's a guy who deserves to be retiring with a testimonial in front of fans to get a proper send-off, not mid-season behind closed doors. Good luck to him, for all that it ďoes seem odd.

Its quite possible he's been offered a position outwith football and had to move now. He's been a good servant to Morton. Best of luck Jim.

The Ghost of B A R P
Wow... sudden stuff just keeps happening at Cappielow. Unless there’s a chronic underlying injury or, as said above, a significant opportunity outside football, that’s all a bit strange.

TONTROOPER
It would be ironical if Hoppy returned to Livy.......to be Martindale's coach.
The Ghost of B A R P
See McElhone's talking about bringing in another keeper and 'someone to help us in the final third', which is a strange way of saying 'forward'. Has to be doubt about whether that will actually happen, given Rae's attitude so far... but we do look as though we're going to get sucked in if it doesn't. Even three draws from the games against Alloa, QoS, and Arbroath would have been enough, while 4, 5, or 6 points would have put the season to bed altogether. Pure essence of Morton to let that slide and have to do it the hard way...
