A spot of Cottaging

The league season began with a 2-2 draw away to Brechin City before we lost 1-0 at home to Annan. Another defeat followed, a 3-2 defeat at Somerset Park before the match at Ibrox. We gave them a scare taking the lead but they dominated the rest of the game winning 2-1. That was followed by a 3-0 thumping at home to Cowdenbeath to finish the month bottom of the league.

The bookies probably have this spot on tbh.

September was a better month starting with a 2-2 draw with Berwick Rangers, we finally got a win beating Alloa 2-1 away before drawing 2-2 with Queen's Park at Hampden where we collapsed after Luke Johnston's red card. We rounded the month off with a 0-0 draw with East Fife which means we're off the bottom.

Things were looking a lot better in October when we achieved a 100% record beating Arbroath, Brechin and Annan in the league and knocking Montrose out of the Scottish Cup. Now up to 3rd in the league and got a home game against Motherwell in the next round to look forward to.

November started with a 5-0 thumping of Ayr, we then drew 1-1 with Cowdenbeath and then 0-0 with Alloa before getting back to winning ways over the border beating Berwick 2-0. Motherwell beat us by the same scoreline when the players seemed more interested in booting them than playing football and we finished with 9 men after two red cards.

December was a decent month results wise. We began with a 1-0 win over Queen's Park with the last touch of the ball and then lost 1-0 away to league leaders East Fife, that was followed up with a 4-1 win at Gayfield. We then drew 1-1 away to Brechin before beating Annan 2-1 with a late winner once again from Reghan Tumilty, he's out with the sniffles so at great expense in agent's fees I brought Bogdan Vastsuk back to the club. Lewis Small is also back at the club, you may remember my temper tantrum after the administrators sold him.

We are 1 point off the top, I can't see that lasting tbh especially after winning Manager of the Month for December.

OK, I'll admit it I'm getting greedy now. We would be top if it wasn't for us getting so many bloody draws as East Fife are dropping points here there and everywhere. We played 5 games in January winning 1 and drawing the other 4. If, and it's a big if the defenders can stop their lapses and the strikers continue to look for the ball after scoring one we might have a chance. Still 1 point off top.

February began the way January ended, with another draw this time with Arbroath, our match with East Fife didn't end in a draw it ended in a 1-0 loss. We then went back to a draw, this time with Brechin before rediscovering how to win against bottom club Ayr.

The top half of the table is REALLY tight...

March was a better month, beating Annan, Cowdenbeath and Alloa although we did our best to throw away a 4-1 lead at Central Park, another minute or two and Cowden probably would have equalised. Teams below us are cutting each other's throats though so we're 5 points clear with 12 to play for...

The 2022/23 began with a 3-0 Challenge Cup victory at home to Alloa, and then we beat Annan 6-0 in the League Cup after being seeded for the first time. We then lost 3-1 at East End Park to lose our 100% record against Dunfermline. We then stole a 2-1 win away to Inverness in the 2nd round of the Challenge Cup. That was followed up with a 1-0 home win against Motherwell before we beat Falkirk away 2-1 courtesy of a comedy own goal. We lost 3-1 to Partick Thistle in the League Cup where we capitulated after a good first half. The month was rounded with a home 1-0 win over league leaders Forfar.

We kicked September off getting beat 1-0 in the Challenge Cup by St.Mirren, we then beat them by the same scoreline a week later. Livingston was next up and we came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with the last kick of the game when Reece Hands launched one in from 30 yards. The month ended on a sour note getting hammered 3-0 by Inverness
