Bundesliga 2023/24

Thomas Schaaf has been dismissed by Hannover 96. 10 defeats in 11. #Bundesliga

U-19 coach, Daniel Stendel, given the job on a caretaker basis till the end of the season.

Wasn't at the H96-Hamburg game on Saturday (was at Firhill), but comments from my mates who were there, then it was an even more abysmal than usual performance.

Got tickets for Dortmund Wolfsburg scheduled for Saturday 30th. Because of uefa cup and champs league fixtures, the date has still to be confirmed. Providing Dortmund are still in the UEFA cup, the game will now be the Monday so I'll get an extra few days in the city. If Wolfsburg somehow put Madrid out the champs league, the game is now the 11th of May and I'll miss it altogether. I'll still head over for the weekend anyway and take another match in.

H96 picked up their 4th point from the return round of fixtures (one more than the number of trainers this season), after a 2-2 draw in Berlin.

Off to an awful start with Hertha taking the lead after just 3 minutes, but for one of the few times this season, the team showed some fight to not just equalise but also go in front before Salomon Kalou got the equaliser for Hertha in the 72nd minute.

Result doesn't reduce in any way H96's likelihood of avoiding automatic relegation. Frankfurt play Hoffenheim plus Bremen play Augsburg today, meaning that the teams directly above will pick up points.

Second time at the Olympiastadion, last time was 4-5 years ago in the middle of a cold spell (was -18oC during the game).

Nice enough stadium, but the athletics track means that fans, both in the away end and the home 'nord-kurve' section are well removed from the pitch.

Next up is Mönchengladbach at home on Friday.post-8056-14601897576819_thumb.jpgpost-8056-14601897995999_thumb.jpgpost-8056-14601898352771_thumb.jpgpost-8056-14601898582059_thumb.jpgpost-8056-14601898749132_thumb.jpg

Cracking stadium but a terrible view.

"Nice enough" and poor view from behind the goals.

The only ground I've been to in Germany is the 'Commerzbank Arena' in Frankfurt. Very impressed.

A rejuvenated H96 put a dent in Mönchengladbach's hope of a Champions League spot with a 2-0 win on Friday evening.

Tuesday during the week marked the 120 year anniversary of the club's start-up/founding. So a large card display/choreo prior to the game was in place.

Hoffenheim and also Bremen winning today, ensures that the H96 relegation express remains on schedule. Although there are now a large number of teams within 1/2 points of the play-off spot. (Most likely against Nuremberg).

Next up, away to Ingolstadt.post-8056-14608335938403_thumb.jpgpost-8056-14608336130657_thumb.jpgpost-8056-14608336288447_thumb.jpgpost-8056-1460833652099_thumb.jpg

German Cup semi-finals this evening as well as yesterday.

Comfortable 3-0 win for Dortmund this evening in Berlin against Hertha

Yesterday Bayern won 2-0 against Bremen. Both goals coming from Tam Muller, with the 2nd being a penalty after a total dive from Arturo Vidal.

Final takes place in Berlin on the 21st May.

Hanover's unbeaten run since parting with Thomas Schaaf continued with a 2-2 draw down in a very driech Ingolstadt.

Proverbial game of two halves, with H96 struggling to complete a pass in the 1st half. Shocking defending gave Ingolstadt a 1-0 lead after 10 minutes, which was doubled in the 25th minute. Ingolstadt though were reduced to 10 men after Bregerie was shown a 2nd yellow card in the 20th minute.

Second half, Hanover were much the better team with 2 of the 3 Japanese players, currently with H96, scoring resulting in a well earned point.

The Audi-Sportpark stadium is probably the stadium in the Bundesliga that I'd last want to revisit. Despite being just 6 years old is already looking "tired", despite being covered still get rained upon due to the open design. Also only non-alcohol beer available in the away end. 👎

Last away trip for this season.

Not going to the final game in Münich, which will be a Bayern wankathon due to them receiving the winners shield etc.

Ingolstadt itself is well worth visiting, typical Bavarian town nestled on the Danube. Also a beer festival was on, to mark the towns' claim to be the home of the German 'Reinheitsgebot' regulations on beer ingredients.

Frankfurt's 2-1 win at home to Mainz confirms that Hanover 96 will be relegated and plying t heir trade in the BL2 next season. Although they are 9 points from the play-off spot with 3 games to go, Bremen play Frankfurt on the final day, which will result in one of them being out of reach.

Hannover's 5th relegation from the BL, and brings an end to the current spell in the top league which commenced in 2002.

Case of wait and see as regards whether the club continue with current interim trainer Daniel Stendel, and also as to what players remain following the inevitable clear-out.

Although not a team full of superstars, most of the first team regulars are international players, and will no doubt move on. Can't see the likes of Ron-Robert Zieler, Salif Sane plus the Japanese trio of Sakei, Kiyotake and Yamaguchi hanging around in the BL2.
