Todd_is_God
With Union currently 2-0 up v Magdeburg, if Hamburg can't get back on terms with Paderborn they will spend a second year outside the top flight.

Instead they fall further behind. Doubt a 2nd year in this division was what they expected.
Todd_is_God
Hamburg lose 4-1. They are staying down! Union travel to Bochum a point behind Paderborn, but with a playoff place secured. Paderborn won't have it easy in Dresden next week either. All to play for

AyrTroopMajor
No surprise to see Hannover and Nurnberg slide into the Bundesliga 2. Commiserations to @German Jag but looking forward to seeing some new stadium pics on this thread next season. Would be good to see Union Berlin in the top flight next season, two Berlin derbies would be some scenes. Paderborn don't belong anywhere near the top level so hopefully they get rammed next week in Dresden and bottle the Playoffs.* Spoiler *Paderborn will win in Dresden and Union Berlin will bottle the Playoffs. GNU_Linux
Be nice to see Union come up at last. Curiously despite being the capital Berlin has only ever had four teams in the Bundesliga. Current Bundesliga club Hertha BSC have had 35 seasons in the divison. The other three miles behind are Tennis Borussia Berlin with five seasons (now playing in 5th tier Oberliga), Blau-Weiß 90 Berlin with a single season (the club folded in 1992 but a sucessor club plays in 5th tier Oberliga) & Tasmania 1900 Berlin also with a single season (club folded in 1973 but a succesor plays in 6th tier Berlin Liga). The last time any Berlin side besides Hertha were in the Bundesliga was Blau-Weiß 90 Berlin in 86-87. As a final piece of useless pub trivia (or is that bierhalle) Tasmania's sole top flight season in 65-66 was the worst in Bundesliga history as over 34 games they won 2, drew 4 & lost 28 whilst scoring 15 & shipping 108. Also set record for lowest attendance of 827. Tasmania were bound to fail as they were added just two weeks before season after Hertha BSC had been thrown out for financial issue. Oberliga Berlin winners Tennis Borussia were snubbed after being deemed too weak due to their poor showing in the promotion playoffs & runners up Spandauer SV declined so the invite went to 3rd place Tasmania.

Genuinely surprised that neither Union Berlin nor BFC Dynamo have ever played in the Bundesliga
Stellaboz
Further down, Fortuna Köln were relegated down to regional west where Viktoria Köln might gain promotion from, if they win their Champions play off.

Glad that "doon" day was confirmed on Saturday, and not travelling to Düsseldorf with some miniscule chance of making the play-off. As regards the game, H96 fully deserved the 3 points. Key difference in performance being the return of Ilhas Bebou. Freiburg to Hannover is a 9-10 hour round trip, so fair fücks to those that more or less sold out the away end. As regards next season's team, Fullkrüg has already signed for Bremen, and the latest today is that Bebou will be joining Mönchengladbach. Case of wait & see as to how many other players have relegation clauses in their contracts. As regards next season's travels the main issue with BL2 is the sh!te K/O times eg down to the arse-end of Bavaria or Baden-Württemberg at 6:30 on a Friday night which invariably requires time off work and quite often an overnight stay. Hoping Paderborn stay down as not yet been there and is easy to get to. Others not been to, would be Kiel, Regensburg, Bochum, newly promoted Osnabrück & Wiesbaden should they get passed Ingolstadt in the play-off. Next up, the above mentioned trip to Düsseldorf.

Todd_is_God
Heartbreak for Union Berlin. Paderborn lose in Dresden, but Union can only draw 2-2 in Bochum. Good save from the keeper in the 96th min to condemn them to the Playoff v Stuttgart.

Viktoria went straight up, the authorities are no nearer to solving the problem of feeding 5 regional leagues into the 3 liga so this year they decided three of the 5 regional league winners would go straight up and the winners of the other two would play off for the 4th spot, with the number of teams being relegated from the 3 liga increased to 4. Off the top of my head I think it's Bayern and Wolfsburg u23s that are playing off. So that would be North and Bayern regions. Those two regions plus one other get the automatic place next season. Edit - it is. Chemnitzer, Viktoria Köln and Mannheim all promoted directly Edited May 19, 2019 by Fuctifano
Stellaboz
Oh wow I didn't know they'd done that, too stuff. Strange that Fortuna will be in a lower league than tiny Viktoria. Will definitely be getting to some 3rd Liga games down the road next season.

AyrTroopMajor
Notice nobody even bothered mentioning Bayern sealing another title. No wonder. Union Berlin v Stuttgart in the Playoffs then. Looking forward to seeing what extravagant way Union will bottle it this time.
