Jesus the carping on about Charles Kennedy is despicable. Ian Blackford didn't make him an alcoholic. Pointing out he couldn't say his own name by 3pm most days in the commons didn't kill him.

His own party offering the poor man no support at all and pretending everything was fine however probably did.

Currently wondering in what world were Alex Massie and Alex Cole-Hamilton considered fence sitters on the subject of Scottish independence ?

You have to remember that in the past Kincardine has proudly shared Tweets from extremists so awful they got banned from the platform. For someone who thinks it’s acceptable to share posts from extremists, anyone mainstream would look like a wishy-washy fence sitter.

Blackford and his  supporters harassed Kennedy in Parliament, in his office, his home and by email, phone calls and letter. Horrible behaviour but unsurprising from Scottish Nationalists.

Given UK Nationalists have set out to actually murder people, this is some take.

That's nice, dear. How are the Union Bear Cubs doing in the Lowland League? That's what excites you, is it not?

He's fair got his dander up, though.  I had a browse at Twitter and he was giving Bunter a kicking:

A "kicking"....The old "Savaged by a sheep" has never been more apt.

I was going to use that self same analogy but @Stringer Bellseems to see ACH as the apotheosis of Muscular Unionism.  The dafty!

Kennedy got more flack from within his own party. He was a good man, imho, and was well-liked, at least outwith the Lib Dem snake pit.

I am pretty surprised that he didn’t resign after the details of the Grady harassment case came out. As for his stance on gender issues, I don’t know what that is and frankly I don’t want to know.

'Muscular Unionism' eh. Careful now lest the 'febrile debate turns ugly'.

Cole-Hamilton has benefitted as much as anyone from the constitutional impasse. He's very successfully campaigned as a unity 'only me and the Lib Dems can stop the SNP and a 2nd referendum' candidate. He's also a direct descendent of the Earl of Enniskillen, so there's certainly a type of, ahem, 'Muscular Unionism' in his family.

Cole-Hamilton is a vile POS.

When I worked for Edinburgh Council he was by far the worst elected 'member' I ever had to deal with. An absolute fucking bell end.

If the SNP manage to move the debate onto constitutional grounds and get the public to engage with the idea of a de facto referendum, with the SNP pitching for an independent Scotland back in the EU - how do you think Starmer's No free movement, f**k the immigrants message is going to go down up here?

Still an obsession with Starmer's comments in one area of policy, immigration.

Let's have a look at the most recent Social Attitudes survey (2017), with attitudes towards immigration across the UK:

In Scotland, 46% of people believe immigration is good for the economy In England, 47% do so. 17% in Scotland think immigration is 'bad' for the economy' as opposed to 16% in England.

In Scotland 43% of people believe that immigration enriches British culture, while in England the figure is.....43%

Source: https://natcen.ac.uk/our-research/research/do-scotland-and-england-wales-have-different-views-about-immigration/

So, effectively no difference in outlook between Scotland and England on this question. Because a majority in Scotland voted to 'Remain', does not equate to different views on this. The Brexit vote was not only down to immigration. For many, yes, it was, but in there were economic considerations as well.

Will one area of Labour policy and distasteful comments (and they are), by the leader of the party on immigration, mean that the Sturg is a shoe in to crash through the 50% barrier? Or will the prospect of Labour winning the GE this time, push their vote up from it's current 31% in Scotland? Time will tell.

Dunno about that, just well read. Maybe education in Wee Nippy's DPRS isn't as bad as you make out.

There is almost no difference in attitude between Scotland and England on pretty-much every question.  Why?  Because we've been the same nation for over 300 years!
