topcat(The most tip top)
£7.5k per annum on council tax? Please. It's technically possible but.... The couple would have to be living in separate houses both of which would be in council tax band H, the most expensive band. Quite how they're going to cover rent or mortgages on two massive properties like that on income of about £9k a year each is another question
pandarilla
Both points are corrected by making very wild assumptions. When the Tories took over in 1979 the country was a financial basketcase and took over a decade to fix properly. When they took over again in 2010 the country was again almost bankrupt. 7 years on and we are still nowhere near sorted. The guy you have linked to here has assumed just two years will correct for the mess left by the previous Labour government. This is clearly nonsense. What a warped sense of economic history. Are you just going to skip over the massive recession that the Tories brought on at the end of the 80s or the fact that the deregulation of the city is what created the even bigger 2008 crash. Don't get me wrong I'm not absolving labour of blame as they did f**k all to reign in the banks but come on tae f**k.

The £7.5k is Jobseeker's Allowance.

Benjamin_Nevis
Indeed it is, i read it wrong. The JSA figure should be under six grand. Joint claim rate is 114.85 per week since April.

Isn't that only when you do not have dependant children? Quote You must make a joint claim with your partner if all the following apply: you both want to claim JSA at least one of you is 18 or over you’re both under State Pension Age neither of you are responsible for a child
Benjamin_Nevis
I didn't phrase that well. You can't have two members of a couple each claiming the 73.10 p/week. Couple either make a Joint Claim or if exemptions apply, one member of the couple is the claimant with the partner added to his or her claim, ie it is only in the first persons name. I've only ever come across both members of a couple claiming the full JSA once, and even then only due to the partner making an arse of the form, and DWP failing to pick up on it or act on a phone call, resulting in a hefty overpayment.
