Not sure if this is the right thread or not, but a hell of a finish to the season in Belgium today:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/65805961

With 89 minutes gone, Union Saint-Gilloise were top.

With 90 minutes gone, Genk were going to be champions.

With 94 minutes gone, Antwerp scored to win their first title in 64 years.

Was there any other football today? Probably not :whistle

Don't pay all that much attention to Belgium football tbh, but without their playoff system, who would have won the title?

Genk were top after 34 games, but only on goal difference.

If they hadn't halved the points ahead of the final 6 matches, then all three clubs would have finished level on points and matches won (the second tie-breaker), but Genk would have won it on goal difference.

f**k it, let's get the Belgian Pro League setup in the Premiership, every season there is a bonkers one. Alderweireld with one of the all-time clutch goals and it couldn't have been hit any better, that's what it's all about.

Ludogorets won their 12th (TWELFTH) consecutive title on Tuesday night.

CSKA ran them close, only missing out by one point and having been top of the league for the majority of the season. Weirdly the game that cost CSKA the title was when they dropped points on Saturday to CSKA 1948, a phoenix club founded a few years ago by former CSKA fans in opposition to the original CSKA's bankruptcy.

Looks like Mbappe has handed in a transfer request. Big question is, how do Madrid finance this?

They don't. They simply wait 12 months and get him for nothing next Summer.

Other thing is, who will PSG want to replace him?

Summer just got interesting, if all this is true.

If his contract only has a year to run its maybe a negotiating tactic

Noticed there's a Crimean based side in the Russian leagues this season as FK Chernomorets Sevastopol are playing in the 4th tier Second League Division B.

They were playing in their own league outside of the pyramid as including them in the pyramid would have been against UEFA's rules as UEFA see Crimea (rightfully) as coming under they Ukrainian FA and they obviously didn't give permission for these teams to move across. With Russia suspended by UEFA now there isn't anyone stopping Russia including them in their pyramid...

Asking the ref to seek out an optician seems mild in comparison

Referees in Cyprus have gone on indefinite strike after an apparent arson attack on a car belonging to an official’s mother, the latest incident in a campaign of terror that has run for nearly a decade.

The Cyprus Football Association has suspended top-flight games in the country and declared “unquestionable” support for officials, who are demanding improved security measures for themselves and their families.

Reports in Cyprus said a vehicle belonging to the mother of the referee Menelaos Antoniou had burst into flame early on Monday morning, with police confirming they were investigating the incident.

Antoniou had taken charge of a top-flight fixture between Limassol and Pafos on Sunday night. The game between Salamina and Ethnikos, which had been scheduled for Monday night, was subsequently postponed, with the CFA confirming a strike by officials due to “repeated malicious actions” against referees.

A statement from the CFA said referees would be stepping back from their roles “until further notice”. The statement read: “The CFA has received a letter from the referees, stating that they have taken this decision due to the continuous attacks they and their families have been subjected to, as well as the fact that no case has been solved by the competent authorities.

“The CFA once again expresses its deep concern about the repeated malicious actions and the creation of terrorism against our referees. Our support for the referees and their families is unquestionable, and we hope that the perpetrators will be brought to justice through police investigations.”

The incident on Monday is the latest in a long-running series of attacks. In June the Cyprus Referees Association headquarters was targeted with a bomb, while a car bomb placed on a referee’s vehicle in 2020 caused the suspension of football for a week.

Previous attacks date back to 2015, including another focused on a referee’s mother, with speculation that the cause of the attacks is related to attempted match‑fixing in Cypriot football.
