Good grief.

so you think it is outwith the realms of possibility that top tennis players use PEDs? despite the fact that many of them are built like WWE wrestlers?

when the women's game went steriod mental in the early 2000s it was pretty much uncommented on in the press despite the likes of mauresomo, pierce, capriati and davenport having muscles on their muscles. when drugs cheat greg rudeski is your bbc analyst you know that tennis is treated with far less scrutiny than cycling or athletics.

andy was immense in the first set but as soon as a few doubts slipped in during the 2nd he was done. he has to sort his head.

is anyone else suspicious of novak's incredibly improved levels of fitness this season? i find it strange that athletes on tour all year round regularly make such massive physical jumps (djokovic this year, murray after wimbledon 08) and it is barely commented on at all. i would bet my bottom dollar that all of the big four and plenty of players below them are on some kind of program.

i don't care and i love watching them play but it seems quite insulting that we are supposed to believe the reason for the jump in form by djovokic is because he switched to a gluten free diet  federer can play endlessly without showing any signs of fatigue, nadal was an absolute monster at 15 years old, murray went from a weakling to one of the strongest guys on tour in 12 months and now novak who used to be close to passing out every time the sun came out from behind a cloud is winning nearly 60 games in 6 months from the baseline and blowing his rivals off court.

no one in the media seems to think this is all a bit odd <_<

Just to back this point up here is a Slate article on the subject. My link

It shows how little testing is actually done and players are basically free to do what they want outside of competitions. I would like to believe that the players don't dope but some of the performance leaps are spectacular. They don't test for EPO regularly and with the money involved why wouldn't players exploit this malaise by the authorities, cycling has barely any financial reward by comparison and those guys are willing to cheat despite the harshest testing.

I also think football has some drug problems too, it would be madness to think otherwise. Madrid and Barca were both implicated in Operation Puerta and then the anti-doping agencies were rebuffed by courts who claimed that no crime was committed.

Djokovic certainly isn't. More meat on a butcher's dug.

Federer's a skinny wee ride as well. And has developed a bit of a pot belly over the last 18 months or so. He's just fucking brilliant at tennis. Nothing more, nothing less.

Also, tennis players are rigorously tested.

Murray himself moaned before either Queens or Wimbledon about being woken up first thing in the morning for a random drugs test - which was the 5th time that month or something ridiculous.

"Never the sunniest of sports characters, Andy Murray was woken by a 6am knock on the door of his Surrey mansion while in bed with his girlfriend, Kim Sears, prior to departing for some rest and recuperation in the Bahamas.

Who dared disturb their idyll? 'Nice little 6am drug test to start the day off,' says a furious Murray, adding: 'Must be a weird job being a drug tester – waking random people up, staring at their privates and then leaving!

'Surely there is a law against that."

The number of tests are meaningless if they don't test for the correct things at the correct time. A standard urine test doesn't check for EPO and considering most doping would occur out of season then it shows the lack of effective testing if they condense it into the middle of the season.

rigourous is not the correct word to describe tennis' drug testing policy

What players are built like wrestlers ? Federer is built like a rake, Djokovic isn't much bigger, Murray has filled out a bit from what he used to be he's by no means bulky, Nadal's left arm is big but hardly near the size of a wrestler. In any event, why would a tennis player want to be the size of a wrestler ? Having brute strength really isn't that important, especially when it would hinder your speed and movement.

And it's probably treated with less scrutiny than cycling and athletics because in tennis the difference PED would make to your performance would be pretty negligible, it might make you a bit more powerful or a bit faster, but it's not going to improve your skill or technique. You can be as powerful or fast as you like, but if your forehand is useless PED aren't going to change that. Compare that to cycling or athletics which is the opposite, they require virtually no technique and are all about speed and endurance - things which PED would improve greatly. It makes perfect sense not to treat it with the same scrutiny - if that is indeed the case.

you'll see it next to the sun headline about hacking milly dowler's phone.

oh wait.

Djokovic certainly isn't. More meat on a butcher's dug.

novak has been a warrior

thenk god he's no longer blind

20 months ago novak was considered a pussy.

novak was close to passing out anytime the sun appeared from behind a cloud

'roger' glides around the ground. five sets aren't an issue.

spanish guy plays a doubles match after a five setter.

it's funny how spainards don't get tired.

1. look at any comments of murray, djokerr or nadal against testing

2. look at the lack of positives against jennifer capriati and mary pierce a decade ago.

3. look at the roided up women's players pulling out the olympics the same day the IOC said they would be tested as any other athlete pre greece 2004

if you're aff the PEDs you are novak 12 months ago.

and if you get right on a good program you are novak today

there's no men in the top 20 tennis players taking PEDs because there is no positive tests.

and by that logic big jen capriati is clean. she had zero positive tests.

if you're aff the PEDs you are novak 12 months ago.

and if you get right on a good program you are novak today

For fuck sake just stop. You're making an arse of it.

For the sake of comedy, are you suggesting Andy Murray takes performance enhancing drugs?

yes that's what i am suggesting. you don't believe that his physical transformation post wimbledon 2008 was suspicious?

you don't find the fact that novak couldn't play in heat 12 months ago but is no blowing everyone off the court is supicious?

why would PEDs be rife in cycling, athletics, football, baseball and gridiron but not tennis?
